1!
I cant say...
However when I enter a temple to the Ale my preference is for the following (in no order) from the major producers...
Thiggys Old Pec
Abbot Ale
and
Marsdens Merry Monk (a really rare tipple).
However if I am in the neighbourhood of a micro-brewery then I have to go with the local water! |

I went to school right next to the St Austell Brewery. The smell of hops every couple of days drifting across the school playground I will never forget it. |

"I went to school right next to the St Austell Brewery. The smell of hops every couple of days drifting across the school playground I will never forget it. " I tried a cider For the first time this weekend the first one I had was on special offer, Koppaberg, lime & strawberry it was non Alcoholic and only cost £1 a bottle, after that I had some in cans which was Alcoholic in pear premium cider which is made in sweden, it also comes in mixed fruit, I think its very nice, makes a change from the norm, thou I still love IPA, GOLDEN HEN, SPECKLED HEN, more light beers than dark ones.

"Has to Doombar for me."
But which one ?
They're so over demanded that all of the production of the bottled beer is in Burton upon trent.
Only the cask version, and therfore real, is brewed in St Austell |

Not brewed in St Austell it's brewed at Rock the other side of Cornwall but close same county.
Your right about the bottled stuff. The joys of a buy out and a bigger brewery cashing in on a decent beer |

Wetherspoons has done a great job stocking all sorts of ales but to be frank most pf the m are just a name to me. But I do like Shepherd Neame - if you go to Faversham you can smell the brewery all over the town.
But my favourite has always been Youngs Special... but it has to be kept in good condition. |

I definately agree there, if the otter has been left a week it tastes tinny, when you get the ale fresh its a lot different and better |

Ran a pub in the late nineties early noughties, Camra Welsh pub of the year a couple of times, and we had over 1500 different beers across the bar over the years
I still have all of the pump clips in the shed
There are so many out there it's difficult to choose a favourite, but I do have a top forty
It's always a delight to find something new and tasty to quaff |

The worst pint ive ever had for sure was when I lived in Manchester. J.W Lees brewery. Their lager tastes like something else, not recommended. There's a picture of prince Charles on the wall sipping a pint and i know exactly how he's feeling( Dirty Gear) |

Really enjoying Badger Hopping Hare at the moment, wonderful taste and cheap as chips in Aldi.
Also loving some of the craft ales, UK and U.S. Some really great tasting beers. |

Ok, a quick definition
A real ale goes through a secondary fermentation process, usually in the cask, in a beer cellar, and is "live".
Therefore a lot of the quality of the beer depends in the cellar man.
Sometimes you will get a live beer in a bottle, with yeast sediment.
99% of all bottled beers are not "real" as they do not go through a second ferment. They might as well be in a can
However, the variety of bottled beers is good and encourages us to try them dowh the pub
