Latest great idea....if it was workable I would totally support it!
Companies banned from paying dividends if don't pay "living" wage. Sentiments all would agree with...practical?
Most companies are "multinational"
Many have headquarters in other countries
Damn sure it would be against EU competition laws (I'm sure other forumites will enlighten us)
Investors will run for the hills, share prices in these companies will crash, company goes bust, workers out of jobs, pension funds fall
.
I love this guys sentiments but I do worry if he is actually the full shilling! |

It's a nice idea, but the fat cats will find loopholes.
But Corbyn should be trying to improve the quality of life for workers. Instead of being tory-lite to win elections as Blair was.
I don't often agree with him, but glad that the opposition is actually challenging the government.

I love this guys sentiments but I do worry if he is actually the full shilling!" . It is impossible for any worker to be underpaid .
On a simplistic basis you simply leave your current employer and take a higher paid one elsewhere . This is assuming that you have marketable skills .
Companies do not exist for the benefit of workers . Whilst workers are important , none are irreplaceable .
It is shareholders who actually invest money and either gain or lose depending on the success of the company .
Corbyn has no interest in either the British economy or the success of the country .
He just wants to be surrounded by his hard left comrades .
As he will never be elected to power , there are no restrictions on what he says no matter how ridculous they are . |

Exactly
What people forget about wages and working
It's a contract - you chose to work there for that money
You can go whoever you want to work
You have no say on what your company does - unless they ask you
As much as you don't owe them anything they don't you
This whole Union thing is a joke - holding the company to ransom - the investor put their money in - all the workers do is provide labour in exchange for money - doesn't give them control
If you don't like your wage, leave

Corbyn, the best thing that ever happened to the conservatives since Michael foot and Kinnock, also the worst thing for the country as there is no real opposition, at least having Nick Clegg acting as a conscience and blocking some Tory policies did some good, now with the clown Corbyn supposedly the main opposition the Tories have free reign to do what they want while Corbyn drives labor supporters to a civil war inside their party |

I'm not sure on his policies or whether he would be good for the country but I just find him refreshing. ...kind of this is who I am!!!
I would vote for him I think,I just find Cameron and Osbornes money, money, money attitude crap.....someone who wants to be in charge of their country for the good of their country and not just for the sake of power would be good. |

"Just raise the minimum wage to what's accepted as the living wage? Or is that to easy?"
Probably.....smaller businesses could go out of business due to not being able to increase prices and larger businesses that could increase prices means that we all pay more so the increased wage doesn't cover costs. No simple solution but as a majority of people appear to always be looking to buy cheap then this a problem that's here to stay unless that mentality changes. |

That's only true if you have a functioning, competive market.
Take the NHS for example, I would argue nurses are underpaid. Because 1 organisation dominates the employment market so the other choices aren't there.
If you look into it, by studying ACAS cases and tribunal rulings, the worst abusers of employee rights are usually government departments and local councils. |

Yes, There are evil multinationals who try to abuse workers rights. They need sorting out. There are also thousands of small businesses, shops, trades etc who are struggling and don't need bashing and lumping together.
We both run small businesses and look after our staff, money can be very tight. When setting up, I've had months were I didn't pay myself. Sick of people like him spouting off when he's never done it and gets a cushy salary every month .
Rules need to be fair for everyone. |

And there it is! I'm so sick of politicians, in any party, who haven't had a real job - fuck off and get some experience of the economy before you start preaching about how it works! |

Corbyn has never worked in the private sector or had to run a business.
He fails to appreciate that the success of private businnesses fund the government services .

Because he'd rather the government ran all the private businesses! |

He definately has some fans on here! Actually there's a pretty board spectrum on here, I can think of two greens and one UKIP. |

Indeed he does have fans....but this particular idea? Seems poorly thought out to me. Made in a speech to the Fabian Society (not renowned for their political balance). Just a "sound bite" to me ...but thought he wanted to avoid that kind of thing? |
