Old (70's/80's) music!
Jump to: Newest in thread
So,
I'm 29 and have a strange taste in music for my age!
I've recently been listening to:
Fleetwood Mac - Need your love so bad.
John Martyn - Various
George Benson - The oldest ones
Boz Scaggs - Lowdown
Steely Dan - FM/Black Cow
Does anyone here have a similar taste in music? If so, can you recommend any other artists? |

Often you find that as you mature and become wise, you need to know more about how things came to be, your taste improves and you become less susceptible to the media marketing machine that is modern pop.
This is certainly not something to hide from or fight, embrace the bands who lead the way. These are the artists influenced the current performers to want to pick up an instrument and write songs in the first place.

Check out Michael Jacksons first album "off the wall" too.
For rock music look at the down to earth album by rainbow featuring Richie Blackmore on lead and Cozy Powell on drums |

"OP, if you have access to a DAB radio I suggest spending a day with Planet Rock, you will be in your element there for 70/80/s "
Yes, do it! Planet Rock is so good. Absolute Radio have a station for several specific decades too which are all really good (we have Absolute Radio 90s on at work, perfection).
When I was growing up my parents were always listening to The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Phil Collins, Alice Cooper, etc... 60s-90s music can't be beat, I struggle to find anything newer I like. |

"Oh, and Peter Green's rendition of "Need Your Love So Bad" is one of my all time favourite songs.
For those who've never heard it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtmW2ek7WkQ"
I was listening to this just the other day. Peter Green was fantastic around that time Great music. |

Prefer 80's / 90's to be honest. As a student of history, the 70's sound like possibly the worst peace-time decade ever so if the music is any reflection... f-ing love the 80's though, all the films, music, clothes... |

The sad thing is that I don't know what music is available.
I'm 29 and it seems that all of the good music was already published and marketed before I was born.
There are thousands of artists, millions of songs, and I have no idea what is what!
I'veJust Remembered, there a guy called James Taylor, another called Neil Young. Why don't we have this quality now?!?

I saw rainbow a few times, when it was the original line up. Ian Paige on drums I believe. When did Powell play with them? |

Excellent choices there fella.
Need Your Love So Bad is one of music's finest moments, Peter Green's guitar solo at the end is absolutely beautiful. |

My dad was a DJ when I was growing up so our lounge was like disco central in late 70's / early 80's.
It meant I have an appreciation of most music especially 80's disco. I was a huge Madonna fan though.
My boys however love The Sweet & Dolly Parton!! |

I used to listen to a station called Supergold that used to play stuff from the 60's/70's/80's. A lot of my ipod came from the liking the songs they played and i downloaded. Check out BBC4, they are playing old repeats of top of the pops and are up to 1981. Your find some good songs on there. |

Two great stations on DAB (or via Freeview or cable) are Absolute 70's/80's.
For me the best era for music was 1977-1984. So much change went on in that period. Punk, new wave, new romantics, Joe Dolce...
Erm, forget that last one. It's a heinous travesty of justice. |
