"too many,and a strange question
No, it isn't. "
A strange question would be...
How many funerals have you been too and do you take celery?
I've been to so many that I've lost count. |

Too many.
The last one was a university friend last year.
Went to the post box one afternoon and inside was a letter whose handwriting I immediately recognised from my friend inviting me to his funeral.
He'd died the week before from stomach cancer and I didn't even know he was ill. :/
One of the best services I've been to. Big turn out, amazing spread of people, backgrounds, ethnicities and creeds. A tribute to an amazing man. |

I hope it was a celebration of his life. |

Too many, I prefer the Irish ones which always turn into a bit of a party rather than being sombre and solemn, I would like people to enjoy themselves at mine and celebrate the life lived to the full. |

I've been to a lot - more tgan 25. My family had a lot of friends and whenever someone died my grandmother would call my dad up to say that someone from our family should be there. He always took me with him.
As for people I've truly cared about, 7.

Three. They were all rubbish. The people who the funerals were held for weren't in attendance. I won't be going to any more!
Better to have your last memory of someone you gave a shit about to be one of them living and breathing and laughing than dead in a box, it seems to me. |

"Why would someone want top open a thread with this question"
Why would someone comment on a thread - the title of which is bleeding obvious as to its content - questioning its intention. I can tell you. But I won't. |

4
3 were close family
1 was a colleague and was a lovely sunny day and a lovely service which was a celebration of his life. Although there was sadness and grief the overwhelming feeling was love and a sense of how he was valued by everyone. Was uplifting |

At the same time, why don't we have a 'How many births have you been to?' Five, me, and I delivered my first daughter! Will I be going to her funeral? No. Will she be coming to mine? No, again.

CONISTON .Stoke Suburbia. Staffs. BARMOUTH. The Lakes (Monthly) |
Just to add......carrying a baby for 9 months, holding them for 9 weeks, watching them do their first smile, ....
Then one night putting them to bed as normal and waking to find them dead, breaks my heart to this day |

"Is there anything that won't be asked on fab?
was it a wrong thing to ask? "
I don't think so. It shouldn't B a taboo subject... that's got a lot to do with why most are awful. We talk about it in our family. |

"I've been to quite a few. In general I prefer funerals to weddings.
One less d*unk?"
I know it's an odd thing to say but I've been to some great funerals. Sad, yes, but also celebrations of life and also a great reminder that life isn't a rehearsal and we need to make every day count. A reminder to love those that matter to you and live with kindness and grace.
I rarely feel quite so moved at weddings. |

So do we, I have instructions from my mum about food, hymns etc and nobody is allowed to wear dark clothes or be sad .
We are viewed as odd by some people who tiptoe around the subject using strange euphemisms. |

First one was in 1979 and a lot since, family ones hard but a school friend in a motorbike crash at 16 was tough as anything. All about respect and remembrance I hope, out next week with a friend with cancer in his 60s who's terrified of what will come. |

Probably about a dozen, including one of my closest friends aged 20. lost more than 1 friend with his death, as the group of friends we hung about in fractured and drifted apart after as it just felt too odd- not seen most of them since |

Quite a few!
The worst period was when I went to the funerals of three babies, one young father, one young mum, my dad and my grandma within a couple of years!
How the hell I avoided getting depression I'll never know! |

I always think it's a shame the person can't attend their own funeral (if that doesn't sound too odd!) I know my grandma would have loved nattering with all her friends and seeing all her family together
As for the question, not many, I've been lucky, and also avoided a few through working. My grandparents and a couple of others, plus a couple more where I was playing hymns but didn't know the person too well.
One of those was so so sad, a 40 something woman dying of cancer, leaving young children behind even though I didn't know her it was difficult to get through. |

"I've been to three. " just two I think. I in general refuse to go. The last one I had to go to was my mums...
I normally do not go no matter who as I prefer to remember them alive x

Too many to count, fewer weddings but many more baptisms.
(My dad was 'in the trade' so to speak)
But once I had attended two funerals, and arranged the early retirement of someone else who all worked for me, I realised why our company pension scheme appeared so generous
(And decided to change my life)

2 - my grandma's and my mum's
Like they say though both in this thread and often at funerals themselves, is to see it as a celebration of their life, and to be glad they were around to begin with, which is a good enough silver lining.
The priest guy made a few mistakes though when reading about her life - has anyone else had that, or noticed it as being common? I suppose they have to do them quite often and obviously don't know the person themselves so I can understand, really. |

I agree! My nan would have loved hers. We were all devastated but had a great time with relatives from all over the country coming together.
I've been to 7 I think. |

"Cant we start a thread bout fluffy kittens n puppies "
I think fluffy kittens m puppies is totally wrong and shouldn't be on a funeral thread.
Celery is absolutely fine though!
Though I really hope this thread doesn't pop into my mind at the next funeral that happens. |
