Calais and Dunkirk

I see our continental "friends" across the water have come up with another great idea.

Instead of trying to disperse the economic migrants in these two areas (they are not the true refugees which is a totally different issue...not for discussion here please) y

They are now bringing in container accommodation and expanding the camps for these train/lorry/boat hoppers! Surely this will just make things worse and encourage more... How does this help anyone?

If they are true refugees they should be housed/given asylum in first safe country [united nations rules] if not valid [vast majority] they should be deported back to where they came from... Discuss!

"Discuss!"

The question is facile, imo

That's ok. Not everyone has to discuss. It's a free world.

There is no question btw...just a statement of what is on the news currently and an invitation to express an opinion.

You don't wish to and that's fine.

How many people are there in the so-called Jungle at Calais?

About 6k. And the British press is wetting itself.

How many people cross from Turkey to Greece each day? In excess of 2k. Every day.

That's a real problem.

Yes....they are true refugees (mostly) and deserve to be, and largely are, being treated far better...being settled across Europe.

Calais about 7000 and Dunkirk about 6000. Economic migrants. Try telling the lorry drivers that it isn't a problem...they are the ones being threatened on a daily basis.

How do you 'prove' who's an economic migrant and who's an asylum seeker?

What's the difference?

I drove back from Spain through Calais in the summer late at night.

Had a very frightening experience where a migrant jumped into the road dressed in black to try and get us to stop/crash, (140kph road).

Whatever their reasons for being there (economic migrant or refugee) I do know they are desperate people in a desperate situation, northern French towns are really struggling to cope with the influx of people and they are willing to risk their lives to reach england.

Giving them a safe place to stay in the short term may be seen as inviting them but what's the alternative let them set up a shanty town and destroy the local area? Regardless of the reasons they are there, they are still people and people need shelter.
