My sons half way to Bangkok just took off on his connecting flight. Those that have met him will understand why I'm wondering if I'll ever see him again. My question is no matter how old they are do we ever stop worrying about them. He's 28 tomorrow by the way

Mine are only 14 & 9 so I have all this to come.

The 14 yr old is a hermit - I long for the day he goes out of the house with friends!!!

The 9yr old is a free spirit & can't wait to be allowed out alone

I was like your 14 year old, then I discovered boys and booze at about 16 and went out and didn't really come home after that

Most kids get through university without incident Hun! My daughter was just unlucky! Can't remember who - but someone famous said most of the things we worry about obsessively never happen - it's the things that never even occurred to us that slap us in the face!! My daughter had a job that took her to places like Bangladesh, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Jordan, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Singapore, Russia et al. Her routine was to send me her itinerary as she knew her dad and I worried even though we didn't transfer our fears to her.

I remember once she was in Botswana and was going to stay on for a couple of days but was moving out of the hotel as couldn't afford it (British Council only covered for work -fair dos). Paid for her to stay safe...think I aged ten years at the thought of out on her own.

When she got stranded in Istanbul during the volcanic ash incident I nearly had heart failure. Didn't help when she said a group of squaddies offered her the opportunity to travel over land and sea with them.

Clever girl got their passports details and sent them to me and her boss with the route they intended taking. Apparently she had the time of her life, group of soldiers, they carrying her bags and looking out for her.

So relieved when she met her future husband and lost the desire to travel.

"your not alone i worry more about my kids now then i did when they where growing up

worry gos with being a parent "

My youngest is getting married in October. Last night I came home she and her fiancé were in her room giggling as they watched Recess! and Hey Arnold on YouTube. All well and good but they had a pot of rice on high burning on the hob!

Five minutes later and my kitchen would have gone up in flames.

You always worry: goes with the territory!

"My sons half way to Bangkok just took off on his connecting flight. Those that have met him will understand why I'm wondering if I'll ever see him again. My question is no matter how old they are do we ever stop worrying about them. He's 28 tomorrow by the way

So relieved when she met her future husband and lost the desire to travel."

I think I'd enjoy that too!

I no he wouldn't ever run. I no sometimes that's by far the best option but that's a 47 year old me talking not me at 28 or him now. Like me at that age he'd rather take a beating than have it on his toes it's all about respect at that age silly as that sounds it's true.

It has nothing to do with size anyway. Some of the hardest men I no are ankle biters and by far the biggest handfuls I've ever had not to mention the quickest tempers. Little man syndrome is alive and very much kicking

little man syndrome really irritates me. A local guy is a man mountain, used to regularly see him in the pub, very quiet and just liked to people watch over a few pints, the amount of little blokes who used to start on him for no reason was awful!

I've been to Thailand twice, both times trekking in the North of the country but starting and finishing in Bangkok. The first time we were there we had a day and night to kill before flights home, can't rememer where we travelled to but a group of went across Bangkok in 3 tuk-tuks. The drivers decided to race each other, it was quite good fun but incredibly reckless. Got back to London and that month's Bizarre magazine has an artcle about the people that clean up the bodies in Bangkok and how tuk-tuks lose control and slide under trucks killing everyone in them!

Second time i was there was travelling on a dual carriageay in the back of a pick-up somewherenear Chang Mai and the driver was more interested in watching porn on a portable DVD player than watching the traffic. That was genuinely terrifying. As was, in a totally different way, the 'bridge' over a 20metre ravine while we were trekking. It was 3 pieces of bamboo an the drop was about 50 foot!

Fantastic times, I'm sure he'll love it Bladey!
