Has anyone else noticed that most TV adverts have the male depicted as an annoying fool or a dribbling fuckwit or a useless twat. While the female is the clever, resourceful intelligent know it all one. And that most adverts finish with the female crossing her arms, shaking her head and giving that condescending look at the pathetic male usually in some embarrassing situation. Have the feminists taken over all the advertising companies?

The pendulum has swung a bit too far

The woman was always the dumb blonde who was cared for by this macho guy. That was nonsence too

Reality is somewhere in the middle

However, adverts are there to sell stuff. Depends on the stuff being sold. An advert for a shaving gel shows an Adonis who has just finished shaving and a beautiful woman caresses his face with adoration. So the guys rush out to buy the shaving gel, rip themselves to shreds in a hurry and are disappointed when she doesn't make an appearance

[ PS. In the interests of equality, there should a be man caressing his face for the Gay clientele ]

If you're watching emmerdale then chances are the adverts will be aimed at women. If you're watching a football game on itv you're gonna have adverts aimed at men. Advertising is a billion pound industry they don't mess about when it comes to their target audiences.

Here's an advert to equal things out

.

No the answer is rather simple!

The average woman does more of the shopping and is more in control of what the weekly shopping income is spent on... Therefore they target the adverts to them.

Any local radio station will tell you, they pretty much play music targeted to women aged between 28-40 for those exact reasons.

I shall now draw your attention to the majoriry of perfume, aftershave, supermarket, parenting adverts ... tell me how the woman are seen as superior within these? In perfumeadverts the woman comcomes across as childlike or in a seductive way, in aftershave adverts the man has a woman waiting for him in a seductive way doing anything for him, in supermarket adverts the woman is doing the shopping/serving/cooking, in parenting it is the mother doing the caring/nurturing.

In my opinion it's about time women weren'tbroadcasted as mindless beings tthat need a man. The woman should be doing up there doing the work herself, instead of shaking her head at the man. The media still like to portray a nuclear family, which really is last century and needs to change.

The way these adverts have been constructed are nothing to do with feminism.

Have you only just noticed. It has been like that since at least 1980s. Those in the media industry have been anti_male for years. In the BT adverts the bright analytical woman scientist from Silent Witness and the ludicrously stupid son from was deliberately teamed as stupid stupid hubby and sassy wife and it's been happening in sitcoms and dramas for decades. On radio and TV daytime programmes men take a continuius drubbing either being prtrayed as inferior to women or abusing them Unfortunately male presenters have been complicit. And how many times do you hear it said that women are better than men in one field or another. This has been part of a pro-women propaganda machine but of course it has been done partly by ppulling men down; denigrating them and their values... and mothers, in that period in particular we have been told incessantly that mothers are irreplaceable but fathers are not.

Then we come to the question of equality. Women should be treated as equal and, quite rightly, in the great majority of contexts have been given huge amounts of assistance ...from men. But no one can say that women's spheres have opened up. Take maternity leave, custody, parental responsibility for unmarried fathers, the WI, YWCA, Mums and Tots Clubs and we STILL have the NHS advertising jobs for Sister and Matron; whole areas of very influential work are dominated by women like personnel, social work, care work, primary school teaching. Mums and Tots Clubs

But the most pernicious effect of all this is on our sons who are brought up entirely in a female environment (remember many of the mothers are feminists who believe in the promotion of women) to their educational and developmental detriment.

And men are meekly aquiescing to this mythmaking because they are stupidly thinking all women are pink and lovely, they have been duped into thinking they are natural carers of their children and they might get get their end away if they make the right noises.

Firstly, no, for the past thirty years women have not been portrated that way....they may be perfect and lovely in ads but they are always prtrayed as in control of her environment and the man. And yes, women are always shown as the carer and homemaker but if you aggregate that with the other positive images about women in work it deliberately gives the impression that men therefore are doing absolutely nothing but watching TV and drinking and women are in control of everything.

If it makes you feel better they don't use children's voices, they use adults voices played at a faster speed to sound like children."

Still have to mute it whenever the advert comes on. My favourite advert is for evergreen grass food with the singing frog. If your lawn is a farce s a right pain in the grass simply shake this on and in a week.... Cheer up evergreen makes it lush and green it's the easy-peasy way to get the lawn of your dreams. Scariest advert was the judder man off the Metz advert oh and the soft mints advert, mr soft can fuck off as well.

The worst type of adverts are those aimed at men, i.e. selling male products, that have the same formula, it's as if they are double mocking the male sex. Do the male actors in these adverts have to prove they have actually been emasculated before they can appear in them?

When I want your imput on what constitutes feminism I'll come into the kitchen and ask you for it.

Gosh, you're so proud of that joke, bless you!

I can just picture you now, standing there with your arms crossed, shaking your head with that condescending look on your face.,and you even managed to get a, "bless you", in there for extra condescension value. Do you work in advertising by any chance?

And what a great imagination too! Lol. Bravo! Would you like a sticker for all your hard work? "

"Don't worry, men still get paid much better, are more likely to be promoted etc."

Well clearly, going by the comments made so far, women are so much more superior that men have to work harder just to keep. As men are working so much harder just to keep up with their clearly superior women colleagues it seems only fair that they should be paid more for all that extra effort that have to put in.

Hereabouts

As other people have said, its the target audience. Adverts play on emotions, so because women tend to be the target audience, using things that happen in real life (like the tesco brand guarentee advert where the dad and son are just being idiots but in a slightly funny way and then the mum is a know it all about the price thing) is a way of women identifying with adverts. Adverts are designed to be appealing to the target audience. Why do you think there's so many toy adverts? Kids are better at bribing their parents than adverts are. Target audience.

If anything, the fact that the adverts are aimed at women is a way of showing equality. Women are still thought of (mostly) as the ones that run the family and get the shopping and stuff... (some may say that that shows that men are still the superior gender)... but by making the woman in the advert sassier or more in control as such, then its evening it out a bit. I don't think its anything to do with feminism. If anything its the opposite.

My favourite advert is the amazon one where the dad takes the kid to nursery and he's lonely so he buys him a superhero costume... that's nothing to do with men being idiots.

I don't know statistics on what I'm about to say just my opinion.

My thinking is that advertisers aim towards the woman as I'm Probably not far wrong in saying over 70% of relationships women take control of the finances so targeting the woman makes complete sense. It has nothing to do with sexism or any of that bullshit these companies are very clever in how they go about there business.

I find that derogatory for the same reason people find lady derogatory.

Men/man implies a certain type and kind of behaviour just as lady does which is offensive.

Well it appears to me people have different ways of interpreting adverts. Yes all adverts are aimed at their target audience, which is probably the reason why daytime adverts are aimed at women, as women are still seen to be the homemaker, which would make advertising companies believe they're making them for the women watching at home, along with children.

The man is still as the breadwinner, so adverts aimed at men show the dominance he has and the working he does. CEOS are mainly men, along with those in parliament. So when it comes to advertisement aimed at men, it is normally for the more expensive products (cars) and the man is in control withthe woman relying on him.

I've not seen the adverts you are on about, but then I don't watch much television. So it'd be interesting to know what specific adverts are pretty much degrading men? You can't state you're for equality, then say feminism is taking over the advertising companies and then carry on saying it's about men and remain focused. When something with this topic arises, it would be expected to see both sides of the argument, as it's not only men portrayed in this way.

Yes we do as one poster said the fact women are still mainly portrayed as the homemaker is essentially reinforcing gender stereotypes leaving the men on top as the bread winners, so I'm at a loss to understand how the OP finds it immaculating, when you look at the adverts from that perspective it could be deemed that the men in them are protested as morons to try to detract the society hasn't really moved on from stereotypes many believe to be outdated

You can't state you're for equality, then say feminism is taking over the advertising companies and then carry on saying it's about men and remain focused. When something with this topic arises, it would be expected to see both sides of the argument, as it's not only men portrayed in this way. "

Yes another point I was trying to make is that adverts do show women negatively too And if you want to play the equality card is worth discussing why those type of adverts also.

"Women do most of the shopping ergo the advertisers play up to them.

. Quite simply this, advertising to your main target audience is just good business sense.

You can advertise to your main target audience without making the other sex seem like brainless morons.

Agree. The Tesco adverts really annoy me. I mostly avoid adverts because the majority are condescending.

Whoever thought of them should be sacked why a good advert or a bad advert it gets the brand in your memory and that's their aim look at the go compare advert !! "

What if you think to yourself their product must be awful as they think the adverts are good.

Someone used the term earlier Feminazi....love it.

To be honest I am split on the whole topic of feminism.

I believe in total equality.

I don't believe in moving goal posts to accommodate any interest group.

I work in the uniformed services. Those in power bend over backwards to get women & minority's to join.

Change tests, give extra coaching etc etc...

Frankly, it's wrong and dangerous for them and those they serve alongside.

Set a realistic standard, achieve that standard. You're in. Fail... You're not. Simple.

Now. Please understand. I work with some outstanding people. But some should NEVER be in the job...

The most discriminated against group in our society today is the White, Christian, Straight Male.

Fact.....

Lights blue touch paper and retires....

Considering I do the same, and you are the one that started the thread.... who do you think this is reflecting badly on? Lol!

"No. they just know it is correct that we women are superior

I don't believe that one sex is superior to the other and I am all for equality but shouldn't females be striving for equality by showing how equal they are with men and not by trying to put men down?

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. Women look much better naked!

Can't argue with that. And that is why men will lose the battle of the sexes because they are ruled by their cocks."

"Has anyone else noticed that most TV adverts have the male depicted as an annoying fool or a dribbling fuckwit or a useless twat. While the female is the clever, resourceful intelligent know it all one. And that most adverts finish with the female crossing her arms, shaking her head and giving that condescending look at the pathetic male usually in some embarrassing situation. Have the feminists taken over all the advertising companies?"

This has been going on for years and you've only just noticed.....

I think all adverts mimic life ,its not reality its about suckering you into believing the products worth buying so if the product is male related they use a sexy woman ,child related then children or animals and female related everything from cost to a sexy man all people are put down in some shape or form and it doesn't matter wether its a good or a bad advert as long as it sticks in your mind

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Nice! Resorting to personal insults when you can't form a logical one. Always a solid strategy!

Again, you seem to be revealing both your narrow-minded abilities of imagination (as you seem to be stuck on the restrictive notion exists that one of us MUST be sexually frustrated), as well as your low grade of reading comprehension.

Don't worry though, keep at it, eh ? I'm sure you'll get there one day! English is a difficult language!

If so bored, why still engaging? Lol

And I see you've added being judgmental and presumptive to your arsenal of skills, along with unimaginative and illiterate! Fantastic! No wonder all the lads can't resist you! Well done, my girl!

No, because proper feminists despise stereotypes that erode all genders
