Now I'm a sucker for an Air Hostess and I'll be flying Air France in the summer so this is a two question thread.
Firstly, are they a good air line?
Secondly, are the Air Hostesses approachable and do they have a laugh or are they miserable like some air lines I've flown.
Thanks in advance. |

Most cabin crew are approachable and friendly that I've experienced if approached in the right way. But they're there to do a job, ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and not be there for a laugh, giggle and banter with the lads while on duty. They have their fair share of d*unks, bad flyers and idiots to deal with everyday so hence why many may seem like they're miserable - but they're probably on their guard wondering which, if any, this guy who wants banter and laughs is ..

"i've been short haul with them... they were alright... and as soon as we were up in the air the alcohol flowed....
d*unk as skunks leaving charles de gaul.... "
I've got 16 hours in their company. I'll not be hitting it quite so hard lol |

Look on the Skytrax website, it awards the airliners * ratings. AF are. 4* airline so just above average I would say.
What I look for is for the airline to be at the top of its game safety wise & reliable, banter with the cabin crew rates a bit lower down the scale for me. |

I just flew back from Shanghai to France with this air line a week ago. Approx 12 hour flight, can't fault them. The food was nice enough, the crew was friendly.
Hope you like camp looking men as half the crew were guys.

I've flown all over Asia in a number of ramshackled pieces of crap. I try not to think about that as I'd never have seen half of the amazing places I've been to if I got worried lol |

Well you did ask if they were good as this site will give you information about the in flight service too.
for me now (it's an age thing I think ) there's a fine line between being adventurous and flying with airline that's actually going to arrive intact. |

I can honestly say on one flight in Nepal I cried when the plane landed as I did think I was going to die. Lol |

Flew with them to Mexico City once. Was fine, service was as you'd expect, just a little slower than I wished and any "questions" were met with the Galic shrug we all know and love.. oh and they lost my bags as well well not the crew but.... |

Emirates, Etihad and even KLM are streets ahead. BA are marginally better (much so if it's long haul).
Also if you're flying via CDG then I want to go on record by saying I hate that fucking place |

They are a horrific airline for safety practices and general good practice.
They use a cheat to include thier return journey fuel (which isn't on the plane outbound ) for thier route planning and have issues regarding training. (Or lack of)
These two issues you may remember from the air france crash off brazil a few years back.
Large storm not enough fuel to divert around they fly through the pitot tubes freeze (they give you air speed)
So the autopilot says "hey i cant tell whats happing you folks are in control".
(Under normal conditions an airbus will not let the pilot crash the plane when its sensors are broke it gives full control to the pilot)
So the two people flying the plane (the fully qualified captain was asleep in his bunk)
Start flying think they're losing altitute and so pull back on the stick snd stall the plane
While the plane is screaming "stall stall stall" at them (you can hear it on the cabin recorder) they keep pulling back stalling it worse (you push forward and gain speed like any pilot should know)
The last few seconds of the recording is the captain comming in the trainee saying "i dont understand we're loosing altitude but ive been pulling back the whole time"
The last recorded control input is the captain forcing the stick forward in an attempt to fix the stall but it hit the ocean seconds later
For over 3 miniutes while the plane lost 38,000ft of altitute the pilot pulled back on the stick stalling it the whole time.
As a macabre side point they found it hit the ocean with such high vertical speed that some passengers were actually cut in half by thier seatbelts
So yeah have a good flight and hope its an airbus as at least then the computer has a chance of keeping you safe ^_^

'Good flight'....lol...
Just a thought from someone who knows nothing about Airline safety..why do we not read of AF planes dropping out of the sky on a regular basis if every flight is a potential Russian roulette scenario? |

"Just googled..AF operate 1500 flights worldwide daily."
Yeah but outside of iran it only takes a very small number of incidents to make you poor conpared to the rest of the competition |

Ok swiss cheese model...but ignorant though I am of Airline safety stats...surely with 1500 flights daily, probability theory would predict inevitable disasters?

Ah I see...a poor safety record is quantitatively different is it not, than the 'horrific' safety practice you state in your initial post.
Google is such a help to the uninformed like me
AF has had one major disaster since 2000. |
