The book's better. I still like the film though it drags a little. Actually a lot of Kubrick's films drag as I'm so used to the action packed 'business' of modern cinema. |

I thought it overrated and probably more well known for being well known than something people actually watch.
Mind you I think one can look at almost any 'top 50' most significant films list and say the same thing about most of them. |

A Kubrick masterpiece, but as often with Kubrick, you appreciate the film more if you've read the book.
It is dated now and I've always found it a difficult film to watch in the sense that it is very dark and disturbing.
But each to their own - some people like Disney |

Never seen it. It's one of only a handful of books I never managed to finish, it unsettled me too much so, iconic though it undoubtedly is, I doubt I ever will watch the movie. |

Funnily enough I'm (T) reading the book now. It is quite hard work mainly because the language that Burgess 'invented' isn't easy to follow. Apparently its a mixture of Balkan/Romany/Rhyming slang. It shocks slightly even now, deity knows what the censors in 1971 thought about (although that's obvious 'cos they banned it lol)
The trouble with some novel derived fillums is the expectation of accuracy and faithfullness can generate disappointment. Sometimes it is better to view each version in it's own right.
Trainspotting was a bugger to read due to being written in Scottishish but I loved the fillum. |

"Tina has never seen it so we're watching it tomorrow.
I can't decide if I think it's a meaningful piece of cinematic art, or a load of pretentious bollocks.
What's your opinion ?" a very sick film in its day but pretty mild in today's standards |

I quite enjoyed it; a dark story about a murderous teen who seeks to cause violence to others and cleverly manipulates the authorities; much like another well known film about a teen who brutally kills two women with the full support of the authorities - one by crushing her to death and the other murdered by seeking her out and causing her death by toxic liquid; literally melted her to death. She was aided by a cyborg, a scarecrow brought to life by dark sorcery and an anthropomorphic beast. Terrifying! |

Are you sure that wasn't a dream you had?
I think I had the same one. |

Could be; now you mention it, everyone did seem strangely familiar... |

"I liked it but i preferred "O lucky man!".
Yes, another great film, but that was Lindsay Anderson, not Kubrick"
I know. But it is another Malcolm McDowell film. Similarly fucked up! |

And If of course, but we're going off topic.
I met Warren Clarke at an end of series shoot party gig I did for the cast and crew of Dalziel and Pascoe - had a chat with him about his role in Clockwork Orange |
