So sadly he has passed away but will live on through his music.
I thought that I would like to share a vivid memory of mine envolving one of his songs, to try and explain how much he meant to people, and would love it anyone else would like to post a song and how it made them feel at the time?
So my daughter was born in January 2013, and I remember sitting up in my bed to feed her in the wee small hours, listening to Radio 2.
They have a club on there called the 3.46am club and I will never forget it because that was the exact time of my daughters' birth- a weird coincidence!
Anyway- the first song my daughter Ever heard- was David Bowies new single- his first for a decade- heard by me and my baby, for the first time that day.
It was Where are we now?https://youtu.be/QWtsV50_-p4
Enjoy xx |

Not one of the first ones you think of when you think of Bowie but Heroes has always been my fave and became an anthem of London 2012 - always evokes that feel good feeling of that Summer when I hear it |

Sound & Vision was the 1st DB record I bought.
Can't pick a fave but I would list Ashes to Ashes, Heroes, Pretty Things, Under Pressure & Absolute Beginners as the songs that stand out over the years for me. |

Saw Bowie at the MK bowl at the time of "let's dance"... Great show. I started listening to Bowie at an early age...as I used to listen to my older sisters records...ended buying loads of albums on my own...a true giant...a part of my history.

I don't know where to start!! Those that know my real name will know that it's tribute enough!!!
My dad was a massive Bowie fan (he's not aware yet as he's been on nights) - if I'd been a boy I would've been called Ziggy so I got off fairly lightly!!
I shall have to think carefully about a favourite tune & get back to you...... |

Here's his performance of Young Americans on The Dick Cavett Show in 1974. I remember watching this years ago and it blowing me away. It still does. The epitomy of class, cool and charisma...

To be really honest, he wasn't someone who floated my boat, musically; I just couldn't recognise or like his musical style etc.
But, he has shaped the musical world with many of today's musical names stating he was their influence to get into Music.
He departs this world having made it a better place, in his own way! |

A legend lost too soon, was an icon and his impact on popular culture in the early 70's (even after the 'swinging 60's' and how music had developed then) was immense and truly original..
hunky dory, aladdin sane, low, diamond dogs all influential in my early teens..
rip great man..
and thank you.. |

I think David Bowie's ability to write and sing soul music has been underated.
I apologise for the use of the term but of all of the 'blue eyed soul singers' he was the best and to me his soul period is still not touched. Additionally his ability to pick talent, at one time he had Luther Vandross in his band and David Sanborn on sax, is rarely picked up.
Not many British singers are named checked on classic funk albums but if you check out the Parliament 'Mothership Connection' Album track ' "P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)" he is mentioned it is a 7 minute track. Legend

To many great tracks to pick one favourite, probably Life on Mars would be my favorite album, but again there are many others I like just as much.
labyrinth, obviously a children's classic film, but Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence was fantastic too.
He came over as a genuine nice guy, will be missed by many. RIP Mr Bowie |

Devastated, only just found out.
I've had an Aladdin Sane shrine to him in my flat for the last year, I look at it now and seems so empty.
Such an influence in what I do now. There are so many but my favourite Bowie track, Suffragette City

Growing up attending a secondary school in a small Scottish town, being clearly different and whose sexuality was clear and not welcome by my peer group, life was very difficult.
David Bowie and Marc Bolan saved me, a strong and dramatic statement but it's true. Through his celebration of difference, allowed my creativity and acceptance of who I was to flourish.
I thanked you then, I thank you now and will always thank you xx
Sleep well Starman xx

He's been on my ipod since I heard the news. What has been so impressive is that despite their being over 140 songs to get thru is that each time I hear a hit I then hear an album track that is just as good.
Chose one song for an artist if this stature? Impossible. |

Live Aid
It should have been impossible to follow that Queen performance for anyone without it seeming like a huge anti climax.
I think only that man could have possibly managed it.
I think all us misfit trans people owe a small debt to him. He made different interesting and cool. |

Everyone coming out of the woodwork gushing about how great & wonderful he was etc. He was just a guy (make of that what you will) who blew his nose and wiped his own behind just like the rest of us. I bumped into him a couple of times socially and he was a genuinely nice guy. But he detested ass kissers and was always wary of people coming up to him out of the blue. I think he was scared of being attacked, but that's just my take on it. If you spoke to him normally, that's how he responded back to you. Not a diva with a huge ego. I suppose the nearest comparison I can make is any generically famous comedian being fed up with people coming up to them and asking them to do something funny. It gets tiring people being unable to separate the person from the persona.
Does that answer your question?

Does it feel like a bunch of strangers talking about your friend?
Anyway, fwiw- you know with all these online media stories, no matter what the subject -BTL, comment is usually split , good and negative comments.
not 50/50, but you always get some snarky remarks from various people. Even if it's about mother Theresa!
Only time I've seen where this wasn't the case - was a few years ago on some article about Bowie. Prob the guardian. 100% positive comments, not a single person made a negative remark about him. Never seen that before or since. |

Oh I see. So you're now his self-appointed spokesman on earth because 'you met him a couple of times'. The OP simply asked what people's favourite Bowie songs were and they were simply responding. Get over yourself. |

I'm not saying I knew him well or anything, merely that I met him on more than one occasion. And on that basis I have a different opinion than a lot of people. Not bad, just different. But you know what? Life goes on, and its short enough not to waste more time on your snidey comments. You suit yourself what you do, I'm no longer interested. |

Never really rated his stuff, mostly way too far self indulgent. Have a dozen good(ish) songs mixed with a load of average stuff.
Anything from the last 20 years or so was pretty dire.
Liked The Laughing Gnome tho |

Went to Sound and Vision Concert Maine Road stadium in early 90s.
A big screen filled the whole stand at one end.
The show began with a huge picture of Ziggy Stardust on the screen then a light shone through it and there was Bowie the screen came away and he began Life on Mars.
2 hours of pure magic followed will never forget.
He collapsed to the floor half way through stayed down for 30 seconds the whole stadium went quiet, then he jumped up and started singing Rebel Rebel, tremendous! |

Like many I was a teenager who thought he was amazing ... my first boyfriend had all his albums ...we listened to them for hours ...
When we split up it broke my heart .... cause he wanted all his bowie albums back ...
But today the radio station played ""The laughing gnome" ... and that made me smile
RIP DAVID ...You are a legend |

This news has made me genuinely sad
I've been a fan of his for years and saw him twice.
When I was very young I thought he was too weird. Then I discovered that a lot of my favourite songs at the time were his. I'd had no idea, just heard them on the radio.
I thought Major Tom was the best one of all. Then I got the Stage album and it turned out my favourite Bowie song, AND favourite song of all time, was on it.
The live version of Five Years |
