Just a little nod to all the people dying of starvation and war and abuse and suicide and crime and all the other ways of dying badly who didn't have good lives.

I figured if a guy who just sang in front of a camera died at a relatively ok age is sad then all the misery others go through must be worth a mention.

Apart from ma mam who died 2 days before ma 7th birthday and ma dad who also sadly joined her when I was 21, I can't think of anything.

Do you have a problem with people posting threads about people who have passed away and might have some sort of influence on their lives?

What? Yes how inconsiderate of me to consider everyone else. Out of all the criticisms you could make that's a pretty weak one.

Whilst it may be an interesting discussion OP, along with "why is an actor who is paid millions is valued more worthy of an honour than the 65yr old who has been emptying bins for 50 years" and "who is worth more, the doctor who operates on you, or the cleaner on minimum wage who stops you dying of an infection", many will consider your timing inappropriate and insensitive.

I think people feel more connected to the death of a public figure such as David Bowie and its more shocking because it's someone they "know".

All the other deaths don't go unmentioned though, there was recently a thread about people starving to death in Syria sadly much of its content bears out the ops opinion.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I didn't know that whose death is saddest was a competition.

Nor did I know we are limited to mourning one person at a time.

Interrupting a memorial thread to say the person's death isn't sad or is less sad than someone else's is in poor taste.

There are comments that have a place on a RIP thread and comments which do not.

A thread to discuss why Bowie's death is being openly recognised when those dying from war and poverty around the world, every day, do so in relative obscurity, is fine. Sticking that sort of comment in the memorial thread itself is insensitive and thoughtless.

So can war and starvation. But yes I had already acknowledged the cancer aspect earlier in the thread. It's just that I don't believe most people really care about others suffering in warzones and poverty etc...They will acknowledge a brief moment of "it's a shame", but they have no real passion or fire towards it.

Theres nothing wrong with being passionate about your cause.perhaps you should go into politics if you wabt to change it.

However word to the wise. You wont win votes or backing by putting a dampner on something people care about and saying other causes are more important. Especially the death of someone well recognised and repsected x

It was more about the celebrity aspect more than DB himself really. Not many mentioned the charity type stuff on the RIP threads. Just the singing and entertainment side.

Ok i will put my two young kids to one side and start a revolution to satisfy you op

Well it would be better for everyone including your kids but I said everyone who's able. If you have 2 kids then you wouldn't be able. Although there are other ways like shopping ethically when/if possible, the media we watch, the way we vote etc..."

Although it is possible to do those things and still find it sad that a musician has died.

If only it were true that everyone does what they can. I think most care more about football, xfactor, soaps, getting pissed at the weekend etc... than they do about making the world better. That's why it's in the mess it is.

I would do politics but I don't think they're the answer and lets be honest...it's not sexy.

I have other more outrageous plans that if successful could help TVP a lot financially.

You are obviously very compassionate and love all your fellow man judging by your love for all others who suffer and die but is it not just a tad hypocritical to criticise others who post about individuals who may have had a positive influence on aspects of their lives? I would presume you at this moment are referring to David Bowie and while you may not mourn his passing these organisations might do.

He was part of peoples lives for his music. People are touched by music and lyrics they are the soundtrack to our lives. Thats why not because he was a celebrity fame is merely a side product.x

I used to go out on the streets around England with a group called The Zeitgeist Movement to promote TVP but then that stopped as some moved away and it didn't really make much difference.

Now my plan is to mix TVP with my new passion....Mixed martial arts. I plan to start training properly this year when I move back to the West Mids and really focus until I can become professional. It's the fastest growing sport in the world as of 2015 so it's a good time to get into it and there is money in it now. So I earn enough to take care of me and my siblings and then I start sending what I earn to TVP. I keep enough to have a decent life for me and siblings but most will go to TVP when that's taken care of. So I'll literally fight for it. And if I do REALLY well then I will have a platform to promote it publicly

It's sad when ANYBODY does. The fact is is that Bowie is relatable to people, people grew up watching and listening to him. He was a lot of people's childhoods. I think it goes without saying that war and starvation etc is much much worse but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to mourn a loss.

Death is sad & misery to some but can also be a relief to others.

How, when & what happens after is out of that persons control.

If people wish to pay their respect to an individual its usually not at the expense of another.

We live in a society whish has evolved from the slightly macabre Victorian attitude towards death and then through a period when wars and conflicts cut short the lives of millions in circumstance leaving loved ones little option to morn their passing or rejoice in the achievements of their lives....

We now live in a society where many gain comfort celebrating the lives of famous people who pass and that's not a bad thing,,,,,

But when it become embroiled in distasteful spats of competitive grieving it infers those displaying their emotion are only really bothered about how their reaction will be perceived rather than the person who's actually passed....

You cant measure grief by counting tears...
