Carrying on from the intelligence thread. What is it that makes someone
what is intelligent to you. For me its someone that can keep me stimulated. I have no qualms in admitting that Jay is far far more intelligent than i am academically i just call him google and ask him what i want to know and he seems to know the answer to everything. He says im socially intelligent, meaning i have shown and taught him about different things |

Someone who is knowlegeable, smart and with a quick wit that can stimulate the mind as well as make a person feel at ease and laugh.
I prefer someone who can have decent small talks than one that bores me to sleep with in-depth discussion on one subject.

Some think it's the ability to quote Shakespeare or Rimbaud, but a parrot can do that. So understanding is an important component. |

I've met intelligent people who are really thick and of course the converse.
The people who most impress me though art those that are intelligent and yet do not push it down your throat all the time. They are happy to mix equally with the man in the street or those in more lofty positions. |

It is best measured NOT when someone is in a situation they are familiar with but how they act when they meet the unknown.
Intelligence is not spouting facts - that's memory.
Intelligence is not demonstrated by insulting someone with a different viewpoint to you. That's fear.
Intelligence is not shouting the loudest. That's an admission of you being the weaker character.
The latter two demonstrate a great lack of intelligence.
Knowing the power of non retaliation and still moving in your own direction OR using what you have gleaned from others to gain steps toward your goal. That's intelligence. |

intelligence to me is not just accamedemic but the ability not to embaress another person in conversation but to talk at a level where everyone is comfortable |

Many different types of intelligence .....or pyshometrics as its called .....
The gifted physicist obviously has a natural logical and spatial intelligence, but could find it hard to form relationships because they have a limited cognition and or understanding of emotions (inter and intra intelligences)...
God speed the day when the education system strives to search for each of our own abilities, nurtures and celebrates the gifts each of us hold, rather than trying to knock square pegs thru round holes .....
I get different things from different people .....mayhaps....

There are theories that say modern knowledge seekers are more like foxes scavenging the net and other information systems and picking up bits of everything.
That's learning though. Which isn't really intelligence. |

When i first started using the forums it scared me. There's a hell of a lot of intelligent and educated people on here using big words and quoting philosophy etc that my views would just be tossed aside, however, if anything, these same people have taught me a lot.
Whilst I am not entirely thick, I do have problems with the written word yet can hold a spoken conversation with ease as long as it doesn't involve politics or religion. |

I come on here for a bit of light entertainment, I dont come on for intellectual debate and I want to chill out to be honest. My posts tend to be at base level because I want everyone to understand the point I am trying to make (doesnt always work). |

Noone should feel their ideals and opinions are second rate because they believe others to be intelligent and educated and therefore feel inadequate by this. I do think that there is an element of people posting in a certain way as to appear elitist. |

There's room for every type of person on a forum.
All it needs is some tolerance.
I've never actually had an intellectual debate here it's all light hearted from my perspective.
Come to think of it ..... i've never even SEEN an intellectual debate here. Give me a shout next time one is going on xx |

At least I can spell .... I find a lot of profiles and forum posts difficult to read because of bad spelling/text talk, more so than those who use long words (which I can google if need be) |
