I only ever remember walnut on top .As I'd take that off and save it ,bite top off and eat that .Then eat as much of the filling nibbling down the sides as required .Then eat the bottom and lastly the walnut!!yum!!!!
God I have OCD when eating walnut whips !!! Lol!! |

YES THERE WAS!
If my memory serves me right there were two flavours, plain and coffee. Plain had a walnut in the bottom too, but I think coffee did not. As a kid I hated the bitterness of the walnut, so I always went for coffee? This is obviously the reason why I love coffee so much now! I was manipulated as a child |

The original Walnut Whip contained a half-walnut, or more usually walnuts that had been broken during handling and transportation and therefore not suitable to be placed on the top. It was later marketed with an extra walnut on top, and subsequently the walnut inside was removed to leave one walnut outside.
That's off wiki x Every day a school day!! |

M and S do their own brand walnut whips in coffee flavour which are pretty good. And they have just introduced a salted caramel walnut whip which isn't too shabby either.

My nan used to make walnut whips in the chocolate factory when I was a kid and regularly brought them home. There was definitely a time in the 70s when there were walnuts in the bottom. After a while these were only available to buy at the factory shop as rejects.
