trust me, if you can get gas central heating it is so much better and cheaper.
Overnight storage is cheaper but not so controllable. It might be cold that night but then you have to die of heat exhaustion the next day if its warm.
Wish i had gas heating.

Technically, if you're on a dual tariff, the night-time electricity rate is about the same as gas, and electric is 100% efficient. But your daytime electricity is more expensive, and as the others say, inevitably you end up running out of stored heat and having to use a fan heater on the expensive tariff.
That said, I suspect in the future, when renewables are cheaper and fossil fuels are more expensive, they'll make a big come-back

We bought a old fashioned house, it was like walking into the 70's, when we moved in, we didn't have any gas at all, everything was electric and we had storage heaters. After a year or 2 when we saved up enough money we got a gas main put in and got gas central heating. The electric bill went down but now we have a gas bill. The money saved on electric now pays gas, so I wouldn't say it's a big saving money wise.
In fact my partner still prefares to use them lil plug in radiators. |

Storage heaters are crap. You get the heat when you don't want it and it's gone when you do. It costs a bomb too.
Gas is way better.
If you're unable to get gas then lpg a great alternative. Calor put a tank in for free, above ground and, if you dig the hole, they'll put an underground one in free.
I recently converted a large double garage into a house for my father and its gas usage (lpg bottles) is a quarter what calor calculated it would be. About £6 a week and the heating is on constant.
Heat pumps are brilliant but expensive to install. Cheap to run though. I have an air source one for my 17th century house connected to a thermal store and air con. |

"thanks to all who put their views.im looking at properties, and a lotdont have gch,so i wondered if leccy was better these days.seems not.xx" .
My advise is buy a place that's extremely well insulated.
Then you don't need to worry about the heating so much |

"Does anyone know how the costs compare between them and gas central heating "
Have a look at energy saving trust to compare.
I always removed storage heaters in all my homes and installed gas fired central heating or oil and I was an electrician |

I've fitted eco heaters in many new builds.they're by far the better option compared to conventional and storage heating.
Plus many eco heaters have built in WiFi controls, you can turn certain rooms off from you phone |
