We had a 180 degree view from my daughter's flat,of fireworks including some of the London ones. Plus loads right outside the flat that were loud and a bit near for my comfort. We had 6 police cars turn up too late to catch the culprits. The kids loved it. |

"But don't forget. No terrorist activities made it even better. No one got hurt which is brilliant "
Having seen Munich's, Paris's and Brussels's New Year's spoiled by politicians pandering to 'credible threats' which turned out to be nothing, I do think that the best part of being British is the 'Blitz spirit': Calm down and carry on.

Mr ddc"
They don't cancel massive events for the fun of it. There are numerous serious terrorist threats prevented throughout the year, the public just don't hear about them.
Not sure how people NOT getting blown up is seen as a bad thing. |

That's not what I said.
A week ago we were told there was a credible threat in London, and the police, rather than give calm reassurance stated that they wouldn't be able to cope. If one panders to terrorists, the terrorists win, and you are at the mercy of any idiot with a anonymous link to the media. Did we not learn that in the 1970s?

Do you mean you'd prefer if the police lied and said everything is going to be ok? |

Nope, I'd prefer they told the truth and pointed out that the chance of anyone coming to harm is slight, then concentrated on doing their job.
Every year NYE revellers are at a far greater risk from cars, but we don't ban traffic.
Would you prefer we spent all our lives cowering under our beds in fear wimpering "but at least this way I won't die"?

NYE revellers are no doubt more at risk of dying of alcohol related issues. |
