It's niggling me this one! When I visit my aunts she insists on locking the front door everyone when she's goes in and out. What I mean is every though she's in the house her front door will always be locked?!
Do you lock your front door during the day?! Is it a common thing? |

If I'm going upstairs I do.....it's an inherent action |

Yes - people could walk straight in and steal my car keys - good bye 2 cars!
All I have to do is turn once lock - easy peasy peace of mind |

I live in a flat & the front door downstairs is a Yale lock. The actual front door of my flat tends to be unlocked when I'm in, then locked at night and when I'm out. |

And ever since a burglar managed to get into my mum's house when she was in AND the Yale lock was locked in the middle of the day, she always dead bolts the door. |

Locked as in need to turn the key to leave? No not during the day but locked as in need a key to enter? Of course, why would you leave yourself exposed? |

Sometimes do sometimes don't
If someone really wants to get into a typical front door with a Euro lock it's takes less than 10 seconds. Using a bump key probably wouldn't cause much suspicion in broad daylight either.
Yale locks are even worse |

I've been know to leave the front door unlocked all night, not so much now I have my little one living with me, because I'm more scared if something happening to him, but when I lived alone I wasn't arsed, and if someone broke in and woke me up before I have had enough sleep, then it would be curtains for them, not because of them breaking in, but because the only people that have ever been able to wake me before time have been my kids, otherwise I'm a right horrible bastard |

My mum was asleep in the front room when someone walked in and stole her purse from the dining room table.
We have Yale locks but she still doesn't always lock her front door...just when she knows we're coming round |

A lot of Yale locks can be opens with a credit card or something similar, even the ones that face the opposite way only need something to hook over behind them. |

Quite strange really! We lived on a council estate for a few years and not once did we lock our doors whether that's just stupidity I'm not sure but it's a shame that people have to lock them! Nothing gripes me more than when I'm visiting or nipping in and out its door locked door unlocked door locked lol |

Our front door locks automatically. If it didn't I probably wouldn't lock it, though. I never used to in the US and never had any problems.
Besides, I have two large and barky dogs. If someone is brave enough to come in they probably deserve what they can grab.

worse thing to do is as my father in law did until I stopped him, which was to key lock the door and put the keys in a safe place, sounds secure, but what happens in a fire? |

living in an ex pit village where everyone is friendly has its drawbacks
round here they tend to open the door and shout "are you in " as they come in
when i was on here as a single guy I was caught a couple of times romping on the sofa with a lady by a suprised neighbour
so now the door is locked |

Would all of you lovely people who don't please drop me a line with your address
Your bank account details and pin numbers
Unfortunately living in London and having a huge german shepherd and an evil little dog who would think nothing of chewing your arm to the bone I have to lock my door as I am not going to risk someone nicking my dogs |

We lock the door as it keeps the kids out lol! Joking of course but if I am here alone (mrs) I tend to lock the door as we have had a foreign stranger walking up our hallway on more than one occasion looking for who we believe to be a colleague. If mr had not been home I think I would have been terrified. |

North of The Wall - youll need your vest |
I have a bing-bong thing as part of the house alarm that goes off when a door is opened but 9/10 I have the door locked anyway.
My sister was burgled once whilst she was in the house and a couple of years ago I was baby-sitting and someone came into the kitchen and took my handbag, car keys and mobile whilst I was in the lounge with the kids |

We don't lock our front door but it's fairly safe as the front door opens onto a small porch. We keep shoes, coats and bags there. To get any further you would need at Yale key or some nifty work with some tools to open the next door which deadlocks itself. That opens into the living room.
My mother is always locking external doors, drives me mad when we visit because I can't get where I need to go if I'm doing jobs around the house for her. But I guess she's a 70 year old widow who has been burgled once (albeit over 20 years ago). |

No kids are always running in and out usually via coming in back door and going out front door!
We very rarely lock it even when we go out, guess we must just live in a safe neighbourhood |

i always lock the door, I know a couple of people who don't, I think it's crazy to leave it open, anyone could nip in and steal something quick without you hearing them. and what if you have the wife bent over the kitchen table and a friend just walks straight in shouting hi guys it's only me, lol could be more than a little embarrassing. |

All doors are locked whether we are in or out. I had a habit of leaving the key in the lock when in but for some reason this bugs Mrs Tyke so have been trained to take the key out now. |

I only lock the doors when hubby is traveling so I'm home alone or with just my teenage son. But we also have 2 dogs and we are well armed, gotta love the 2nd amendment
and we're out in the country with a long drive so I generally know if someone is coming up to the house. |

Always lock front & back doors now (& garage), although don't remember being so cautious 15-20 yrs ago.
A few years back had someone trying the back door one night (thankfully locked & dead-bolted). Have been more local daylight break-ins judging by the news, and from the sounds of it, just going in unlocked doors. |

Back door is always locked
And the front door is if I go upstairs, even if it's to use the bathroom. Never use to but after some scumbag walked into my house a couple of years ago and taking my bag off the kitchen table |

If you are in my house you are locked in. If you are out you are locked out.
It's always been this way.
I live in a good neighbourhood but don't see the point in locking the doors when you go out and not when you are in ......... I mean .. burglary is bad enough ... but burglary with violence. No thanks. |

About two years ago I was locked out of my house.
I booted my door in so easily. |

We have no choice, we have self locking doors, as soon as you shut the door it cannot be opened from the outside without a key, it is a pain my arse because everyone goes out without a key so I have to get up and let them in drives me mad, just take a key |

My front door is permanently locked with a sofa against it. The back door is only locked if I'm out, or if I remember, when I go to bed. To get to it you 1st have to get through a creaky metal gate, and I have dogs so I pretty much always know someone is here before they walk in. Mates don't knock lol. |

We have a Yale lock and a deadlock.
Yale lock yes, deadlock only at night.
Isn't not locking your door a standard exclusion on insurance policies?
Our neighbour had her handbag stolen a few years ago, the police and insurance company's attitude was both "nothing we can do, try to be more careful next time"

Yes. Mine and my daughters' front doors can be opened by tugging on the handle if you don't lock them. I have to lock the bathroom and toilet doors too when I'm home alone. |

I lock everything - even when I am indoors
If I am the front of the flat, the rear windows are closed and locked no matter what the weather
I am a bit OTT security wise |
