I was having a conversation with a friend about bisexuality in men and women a few days ago.
His point was bisexual women are more common and that as a man, he believes that bisexual men are less common.
My opinion is that there's a roughly equal amount of bisexual men and women, but society as a whole accepts bi women more than bi men, so maybe men are more quiet about their sexuality.
Thoughts? |

I think there are alot of women who will snog their mates when d*unk, hence there is a belief that more women are bisexual than they really are.
I think if the question was asked as to how many women have had relationships with women and how many men have had relationships with men, the figures would be roughly equal. |

At the union LGBTQ conference I attend, we have a bi-sexual group that meets and discusses bi issues. Last year there was 2 men amd approx 30 women, this year there was 16 men and about 30 women.
I think bi-sexuality in men is becoming a lot more acceptable, but there are still huge gaps. |

I agree. I was having the same conversation with a bi guy on Fri. As it is, on Fab there are many guys with "straight" on their profile who have partaken in bi fun, are curious or are bi but prefer not to have it on their profile due to the stigma from some couples.
Im not so sure that relationships really come in to it though. I class myself as bi as I am attracted to women physically and sexually however I'm not sure I would ever be in a relationship with one. I don't count it out, however I'm yet to meet someone who I felt that way about. |

I believe there is still stigma attached to being a bisexual male, once again related to outdated heterosexual male machismo.
Plus, I'm sorry to say, the attitude of homosexual men toward bisexual men as well.
I think that's why people are more secretive , if not more, than being gay, as you risk being shunned by both 'sides'. |

My partner has this problem. He uses gay sites extensively to meet men, but he often doesn't tell them he's bi. If they don't ask, he doesn't volunteer the information. |

... I can only assume the "yes" responses are in agreement, as opposed to my habit of saying yes when I don't have a frigging clue of what's going on... |

And in answer to one reply I can tell you that not everyone is slightly bi..

Agree...its a social stigma for a man to be bisexual. One of my mates when i was in university went in to depression few months after he admitted that he was bisexual... |

We are born somewhere on the Sexuality spectrum and some are in the middle and some of us are definitely at the hetero end.
It does P me off a bit that people think it's not possible to be straight and we must be lying or hiding something
I love bi men though |

Not at all. I think we're born with our sexuality already in place - society forces some to hide theirs. It can't choose your orientation for you |

I must know the wrong gays then because I've only seen bi-sexuality in others encouraged by gay men. It widens the feel a bit.
I've heard banter along the lines of 'ewww but it's fanny' but never more than that.
I've certainly never had any stick for it. When you tell most people - of any sexuality - at worst it's a morbid curiosity of 'what's it like ?' more than anything else |

Tolerance and acceptance takes time....
I know if I were growing-up in the present era....... I'd be more comfortable and open about expressing my sexuality and enjoyment of crossdressing......
As it is ..... I am now totally open about those aspects of my life, but it wasn't always like that,,,, |

I don't think I was born bisexual. I was straight until about 3 years ago. It wasn't 'hidden' - it just wasn't there. |

I disagree. If that were the case i would have at least been curious at some point. I'm really not in the slightest. That has nothing to do with society it's just the way i am. |

You were born with the propensity to become bisexual - it just so happens it wasn't 'activated' until 3 years ago.
Straight people that were born without that propensity are straight throughout their lives. The desire for same sex sex just isn't there. Ever.

Girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money
Boys will laugh at girls when they're not funny
And these girls like these boys like these boys like these girls
The girls with the bodies like boys with Ferraris
Girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money
Sorry.. Thread title got that song stuck in my head |

As a heterosexual guy I must admit I have a hard time believing that bisexuality is equal between the sexe's. Though that could be the case of course. I'm just basing that more on a feeling I have as oppose to any facts. Women I just feel have more of a tendency to be bi. It's hard for me to explain why I feel like that.
But there is most certainly a stigma around guys coming out as anything other than straight. Which is quite sad in this day and age. Women I don't think face that same stigma. They certainly don't on sites like this.
It would be interesting to see some actual figures on it though. Someone must have done some research into it. |

I googled bi men to women ratio. When people were asked about there sexuality, 1.3% of men admitted to being gay, 0.9% women admitted to being gay.
When asked about being bi, 0.3% men admitted to being bi, 0.5% women.
Is it more acceptable for men to admit to being gay than bi, and vice versa ? |

I thought the figure was something like 1 in 5, so more 20% rather than in points of 1% |

I'm a true believer in the spectrum of sexuality. Who I find attractive is very fluid and I don't like to stick to hard and fast rules about a 'type' regardless of gender. I suppose this is also where the distinction between a 'relationship' attraction and a purely sexual attraction comes in.
For example, I (B) consider myself to be bisexual. I find men and women attractive equally dependent on the person and not their gender. However, I have only ever had relationships with men. Does that mean I would count in the stats as bi or straight?
My point is that its really hard to count up how many people fit into which categories because it's so arbitrary. You can be whichever label, with whichever definition, any day of the week you fancy. And you can flip the rules if you feel like it, just because!
So equal numbers? No idea. Did you know that 78% of statistics are made up anyway? |

I think a lot of guys who try or do bi are more silent about it. There's a huge proportion of guys who have or do stuff but don't share the information with anyone. Women are more about it I believe, in comparison. |

No where near 20% |
