So, what does it mean to you?
Is seeing believing?
Or do things cease to exist because of lack of belief?
I ask because of the abundance of christmas movies that have both aspects in and use belief as an underlying message |

I only believe the little person who lives in my hair and whispers in my ear. I can't see her though.
Seriously, I believe some things through blind faith, others through experience, still others because there appears to be evidence.
On the last, for example, I believe that Time Peake is on the International Space Station and not in a metal box in Russia somewhere.

But I don't think you have to see things in order to believe in them. I've never SEEN a ghost but I've heard them. I have faith that God exists and obviously I've never seen him. |

I think people see what they want to believe.
If everyone stopped believing in Father Christmas he would cease to exist because he is a legendary character. If everyone stopped believing in the queen she would still exist because she's real (as far as I know).
So I think that people invent things to believe in that suit them and offer comfort and the spirit of Christmas is one of them. |

I like this answer. I believe in imoogi, the river Styx, the Titans, but with regards to myself, Santa is a myth, but to people whom believe, he's real. However, I don't want anything, so it suits my purpose not to believe |

No if I have no proof but I think it's right it's a belief
If I have proof it's right it's simply knowledge.

Oh wait you have taken my statement to mean I see all things without proof as belief?
Well there are many things I don't have proof of but don't think are correct they are belief too.
These same things make be knowledge to someone else though.
For instance I know what I think but my idea about what someone else is thinking is only ever a belief as I will never have proof of what they are thinking |

Exactly. If God were appearing here there and everywhere miraculously saving people then you wouldn't need faith because you'd just turn the telly on and see what God did today. Only by testing your faith could you say you still had belief in him. Its the old "if you love them, let them go" thing. Save those who come back. |

Lol it's not believing in some thing! It's belief in someone. Belief that shit that happens is for your own good. Like as a child i believed in my parents to do things for my good. I didn't need to believe they existed because i could see them. The question is do you have faith in God existing. And if you do, do you have belief in him... |

Let's paraphrase a little. Jesus said "believe in me". He didn't mean come and touch me to see if I'm real. His followers could already see that he was, he ment "believe i will do the things I've said i will do. Or that will come to pass". Belief in your particular religion. Not believe in your particular religion, if you will.
You don't have to believe in Islam, it's real. But you do have to have belief in Allah that shit that happens happens for a reason.
All this only applies if you have faith. If you don't believe and have faith in a hierarchical God system then none of it applies. However if you're a Buddhist then yes you believe in reincarnation, and the Dalai lama is your evidence. |
