Works do dilemma...

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

So I have my works do on Saturday night. I've only been there a couple of months... so still getting to know people (and found most so far, to be quite clicky). When I first got the tickets to go, I had a date... but am now single (awww).

My question is... do I brave it on my own... or pretend I'm ill, and have a rare Saturday night to myself and maybe a meet? Answers on a postcard please

Go, that's how you break into the clique, but don't shag the boss under the table

Go, get to know the people you work with on a social level. Or take a meet as your plus 1...

Titz Towers, North Notts

Attend and break into the clique. If you don't go, they'll only bitch about you

Definitely do it.

Show them what you're made of. Don;t get too d*unk... listen to gossip but don;t partake of it.

Enjoy.

Go to the do. People there might be less cliquey when alcohol is involved.

Go OP. Have a good time and get to know everyone.

I went to mine last night and I don't feel human today. I've also been taking every opportunity to put my foot in my mouth. I wish ours was on a Saturday like yours.

That sounds so much better than mine. I stayed, got pissed, didn't have food at all, ended up in a cab at 2am this morning and I feel like shit today and still had to be at work this morning at 8am

Having been to more work Christmas events than you can shake a stick at I now avoid them if possible, however in your circumstances I would say go just to get yourself better known.

Edinburgh

I was at our lunch yesterday... in the worst seat in the place. Making small talk with dull people isn't my idea of fun. Nice but dull I mean. The wine was terrible too so I had lemonade. Four excruciating hours later I left them to it.

My next one is on Friday night and if I'm on the shit table again I'm going to McDonalds on the way home!! At 7.30pm!!

Good luck OP... my top tip is not to piss off the person who makes the table plan!

You should definitely go. You can always make your excuses and leave a bit earlier if it's really bad. It won't be though, it will be great

Have fun

My work Christmas Do was pretty boring this year.

I was home by 11pm & sober.

But we are going out for drinks tomorrow night & it will involve a lot more alcohol

I'm not into going to work do's - I see these people far too much already - I'd rather spend the time off I do have with other people!

Also I'm scared of drinking too much and saying things I might regret the next day!

Brave it and go alone but leave before you get pissed and get talked about ,with you being the new member of staff .

That's what I did and worked well and enjoyed myself .

Will most of them be coupled up? I'd try to force myself to go and socialise with people. Could end up having a great time, and if it's really bad you can always feign a headache and go home, nothing lost.

Definitely go! It'll give you a chance to get to know people outside the workplace. In my experience some people are much different with a drink in them x

I would say don't go.

I never go to a work "do", they are usually incredibly boring, hugely expensive and i really don't want to spend my free time with the people i work with.

I have a far better time with hubby

We worked out that the last time I went to mine was 2005. I went last night so I think that should see me through to 2025!
