If it's one thing I've noticed about human psychology it's that we can easily hold utterly contradictory ideas in our heads.

Cognitive dissonance.

Also hot burgers are nice. Cold beer is nice if it's a crisp lager. Slightly cool but not cold for a hoppier brew. Coffee is nice hot or iced. But warm ice cream isn't ice cream. It loses itself when it gains in temperature.

Yes but if you reverse the temperature of those items they'd be awful, so we should stick to bread & water, good either way round

But ice cream smothered in hot rhubarb and vanilla compote is rather wonderful, even if the ice cream melts a little faster than normal

I'm more of a hot chocolate fudge sauce over ice cream girl but rhubarb and vanilla sounds lush. The ice cream is still ice cream if you eat it quick enough; a little melting is fine, but fully liquefied is disappointing.
