Is going on holiday to Greece any good? What with the financial state it was in?

I don't read the papers or watch the news much.

Financial state it was in? It's still in a poor financial state thanks to the euro.

The Euro isn't to blame - true is stopping them devalue their currency against stronger economies - but the reason they are in trouble in the first place is a poor record of taxation and spending coupled with an over generous public sector

On the mainland is beautiful too & one big bonus is that you're away from the 'en-ger-land, here we go here we go complete cringe worthy Iidiots.

Meteora is an incredible place to visit too!

We have been going to Corfu for 12 years. Went last June as always, when the austerity vote was on. They were all concerned but we still experienced the same hospitality as always. Everything was fine and we love San Stefanos and the locals, who look after us, so we will continue to support them in the future!

Kalamaki. I've not been abroad for 7 years & spent 3 years saving for it. Can't wait!!! We've gone all inclusive because of the boys but the hotel comes highly recommended & has an amazing waterpark

We want to see the turtles but don't want to put them in any danger either! What's the best way to see them?

Just go on a boat trip as the guys who run them are really respectful of the turtles. We've stayed in Argassi twice and love it there. The joy of Zante is its the wrong side of Greece to see much migrant activity.

As for the OP's original question, we just played safe and took plenty of cash. Didnt use the banks at all.

Back then we went on a visit that was organised by local authorities, couldn't get too close in case you spooked them but close enough to see them ok. Not sure who would do it nowadays, but reps may know of organised trips in the area.

Many businesses would rather have cash and some are no longer taking card payments. Some cash machines have a limit on how much you can withdraw.

So get your holiday money here in plenty of time. Just remember not to flash your wad around and to keep it secure - use the safe in your room or even lodge it with the hotel manager.

The Greeks are incredibly hospitable and welcoming and you'll have an amazing time, but some are also really struggling.

If it's turtle watching you're after you'll have to look at the Arcelor website - the Sea Turtle Protecting Society for Greece

My ex spent a whole summer as a volunteer in Crete, working with them.

You could also try the Tortoise Trust, here in the UK, for helpful advice

Hi all, we spend the summer season working on Corfu, forget what you read in the newspapers no shortages of food / water / fuel.

atm's you can withdraw your daily limit, it was only Greek cards that had a limit of 60e per day.

As to next year things will stay much the same. Connie xx
