Always try to progress in all aspects of life.
“No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well...maybe chalk it off to forced conscious expansion: Tune in, freak out, get beaten.”

Define mediocre?
It's all a matter of opinion really, what some see as mediocre others see as entertaining.
I'm just me, you don't like it change the channel |

"I honestly like being average and mediocre in many ways.
-Courtney
Ah hell no you're not!!
I stand out with my most excellent White Knighting talents "
Well thanks to you and SB.
But really everyone thinks they stand out, when in reality we are all mediocre in most ways. I embrace my averageness and enjoy it. I'm not saying it to get people telling me I'm not. I just say it because its how I see it.
No white nights necessary

"By being practically perfect in every way "
Honest answer though my talent lies in blending into the background. I'm like those middle achievers at school. I've spent my entire life trying not to be noticed. I don't want to start now. |

In real life I suffer from Mephobia. ..the fear of being so awesome that the human race cannot cope and I cause a mass extinction
Its only my level 1000 ninja status that barely keeps it in check |

Who's idea of mediocrity?
I don't think I or anybody elyse is mediocre.
But to answer, I don't do anything in life with the idea of distancing myself from mediocrity through my actions or thoughts, I just live a life that i see as interesting...
My combination of experiences are completely unique and amount to me and who I am...unique and interesting to some, mediocre and grey to others.

The most anyone can aspire to in reality is to be an individual. By being yourself you set yourself apart. I find it sad when people want to be like someone they see and model themselves on that person. Its easy to see in the whole cult of celebrity where people are subsumed into an almost one dimensional plane of existence, with no original thoughts.
One of the things I like about the forums is that, even in this weird virtual community, it is possible to differentiate one from another just by their posts. Sometimes you almost know who has posted something without seeing their name. That is truly when your individuality shines through and you have broken through the barrier of mediocrity.

I am who I am, and I'm playing my game.
I just don't think the same way you do SB.
I don't exist in a 'mire' of mediocrity or otherwise.
I am an optimist. By training, not nature. |

"Oh, SB! I think this is what I would entitle the thread, instead:
The Awesomeness of Averageness
-Courtney"
You used the 'ness' twice, as a result, you title lacks punch, you need to suggest something like
'The Mecca of Moderately Mundane Magnificence'
Or
'Dr Normals formal cornball Mardi Gras of anatomically common wing-wang La-Di-Da'
...the latter of which makes no sense, it just sounds good when you say it. |

"But really everyone thinks they stand out,

I think most people feel they don't, and many don't want to. And many like the comfort of just blending in."
Not really. Its called illusory superiority. There have been plenty of news stories on it and articles published in academic journals.
You can look up an article from CBS news titled "Everyone thinks they are above average" for more on it (I don't know what I am allowed to post links to).

Only kidding. I'm a civil servant - you can't get much more mediocre than that!"
Neigh, clip clop, clip clop ... Oh there's no way you're mediocre my lovely! Oh wait, hang on, a civil servant you say? Ok you win - |

Loosely linked - check out 'depressive realism' - in a nutshell, there is a suggestion that people suffering from depressive illnesses seem to make more accurate self assessments with regards to their intelligence levels/how generous they feel they are etc... Non- sufferers appear to perceive themselves to be better than they actually are..

"Just looked up 'illusory superiority'. I had no idea "
Interesting, isn't it?
It is evidenced every day in the forums, though....with each thread extolling a specific trait.
I'll still with being generally average

Yes, it is the juxtaposition to illusory superiority. Apparently this illusion is good for our self-esteem. *shrugs*

I'm definitely in mediocrity
It seems I'm surrounded at times by right wing bigots or regressive leftists!
I'm happy being here in the middle with my leftish personality and my right wing rasionality |

There's very little evidence to suggest he even existed!.
How much of his quotes are Plato's or his are really unknown
There's very little evidence that Plato existed!
At least Pythagoras left a theorem.. Or did he |

Ladies, gentlemen and guy who started this thread.
There is not a single one of you that is mediocre. We are talking on a swingers site you are already outside the scope of normal society and not conforming to the established order of things.
So congrats |
