"Can someone briefly explain it. I have my lazy head on b"
Law of Attraction. If you believe it'll happen, it'll happen. Positive thinking. Some people think if they believe their cancer will go, it will (as a result of the book). It's bizarre. |

It's a book for dreamers. Wish for shit and it'll happen sort of clap trap. "

I don't think people who buy into it should be looked down upon. It's a self help book, they just wanted some relief. It's sad how some people interpreted it, though. |

That may well be the case but I've a personal reason for such hatred of it. The 50 shades women made a shed lot of cash from that utter tripe she churned out but at least she didn't prey on the vulnerable and the mentally ill who are susceptible to believing in the secret like it's going to solve all their problems. |

Terrible book. Bought the audio book to pass some time in the car. Would rather sit in silence.
No I've sold it so well... Who wants it? Free to the horniest person... |

I honestly haven't read it, so couldn't tell you if in my opinion it is shit or not, was just referring to some comment, which categorised as shit... but in any case I looked down at people who read.
If the book is "Shit" and sell dream as I have read, it says a lot about the state of mind people are in. |

Sadly there is a huge industry peddling this tripe to vulnerable people, from conferences to groups to books to DVDs. Totally unregulated and many people get sucked in. |

Got it in one
I didn't like to be disparaging, as sometimes if someone's on a roll, after a book, it's a pity to add some disillusionment.
'If you think it, it will come', if I can paraphrase the Field of Dreams line. If only all the poor folk I see at stores buying lottery tickets, who surely have some expectation of winning, could just get their £millions. |

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
Oh god, I met someone into this sort of thing. He went to all the conferences, and told me about it incessantly. Having said that, he was one of the happiest people I've ever met, so it was working for him. |

I guess maybe some people need this sort of mind training more than others and if works then great. I'm a bit of a sceptic and get bored easily so probably couldn't keep it going anyway. Mindfulness is my next project in the new year x |

Don’t waste your time with The Secret. It is true that how you think about things can influence what happens to you, but only in fairly modest ways and when all of the steps involved happen within you (not in the outside environment). For example, there is evidence to show that being optimistic will increase your lifespan because it lowers stress hormones like cortisol that have adverse health consequences. The idea that you could think hard about being rich and suddenly become rich (or other misconceptions contained in The Secret) is not supported by evidence.
If you want some decent self-help material that is actually backed up by evidence then check out books on: 1) Positive Psychology, 2) Mindfulness/Meditation, or 3) Cognitive Emotive Behavior Therapy/Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. These will not work miracles like those promised by The Secret and similar books, but they do contain useful ideas that have been well-documented over decades of scientific research.

I think most people on this tread have mis understood or not read the book it's not about believing you will be rich and becoming rich it's about thinking about what you want to become believing you can become and if you do this long and hard enough you will find a way to become and live your dream |

After finding my best friends copy of it after her stay in a mental health ward and it was full of red pen marking passages that spoke to her, I stand by my comment that it's bullshit and gives vulnerable people false ideas and hope that the world will somehow become better because of what this book says. |

"You will attract everything that you require. If it's money you need you will attract it. If it's people you need you'll attract it. You've got to pay attention to what you are attracted to, because as you hold images of what you want, you're going to be attracted to things and they're going to be attracted to you. But it literally moved into physical reality with and through you. And it does that by law." -Bob Procter as quoted in The Secret
