With the rise of Aldi, and the consumer being more savvy in their purchases, I was wondering what people found in their grocery shop at Aldi that really took them by surprise?
I don't mean a black widow spider in a hand of bananas, more an item of grocery shopping that you weren't expecting much from but now is something you only buy from Aldi? |

Toilet rolls, washing powder, washing up liquid, all miles cheaper and miles better than branded versions.
Their orange juice, wine, meat etc.
All 100 times better than other supermarkets |

I'm starting to find that the things I buy really regularly such as the tempura battered basa fillets which I absolutely love are constantly running out of stock these days and its happening on more and more items.
I get the feeling for my conversations with the staff it's a case of the supply chain not keeping pace with the increase in the companies trade and fortunes.
The only thing I can really knock them down in though is that as much as I like their choice and prices of their fruit and veg the amount of mouldy items I've seen in there really does put me off.
I know the media had a pop at them over their practice's regarding sell by dates etc but I've actually seen nearly while trays of citrus fruits and Strawberry's etc covered in white mould with my own eyes.
Because I like aldi so much it makes it all the more disappointing. |

Love Aldi. I actually live next door to a branch.
Their Chorizo is yum. Everything everyone else has said. Except for the wet suit. Not much call for that in landlocked Brum. Although there is the reservoir... |

"Their 40 year old Tawny port"
the 25 year old celebration port and 36 month old vintage cheese and the garlic full cloves in infused oil - I'm writing a cookbook and use so many of their products X |

Aldi - 0% Greek yogurt, flour, steak, ketchup (I was always a Heinz only girl)
Lidl: there version of Capri suns for kids lunch, they have brandy soaked fruit this year which has taken so much hassle out of the Christmas cakes and puds. Fondant |
