It's great that we had that milestone 50 years ago. It's definitely better now than then, though it's possible that more is hidden racism now.
No Irish, blacks etc signs were common then in all kinds of establishments. Getting tenancies etc was really tough and work was highly restricted. We should be very proud of how much we've moved in this time, as well as of those who fought for this legislation.
Still more to achieve and resentment from some. It's an example of where laws helped to direct society over appropriate behaviour and standards that were needed. |
