Using 'apply' in profiles....

Jump to: Newest in thread

I can't be the only one who finds the use of the term 'apply' a bit odd in the context of approaching someone for a meet.... It pops up in various profiles with things like 'only bi/straight/black/white/hairy/smooth/bearded etc guys need apply'. What are they applying for..?? Is there an interview..?? Are there competencies..?? Do you need references..??!! Just seems a strange phrase to use....

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I always thought it was a jokey phrase, like when in the 70s people advertised for a secretary, stating 'only busty blondes need apply'.

"I wouldn't take the phrase literally"

Why not? I expect a CV to ensure the applicant is an intelligent professional!

It's almost as bad as 'put the word XXX in the title then we know you've read'

Brighton - even Hove!

I always read it as 'applely' as in, the manner of an apple.

No bananas here.

We have had a few meets where we thought we were being interviewed and on one occasions thought we might be asked to fill out some disclaimer forms.

I don't use the term 'apply' but in a sense it's correct I think.

If a guy messages me I am going to chat for a bit and ask some questions. It's like a mega informal 'interview', as I am trying to suss out if he'll be worth meeting.

I realise some people skip this phase and go straight to sex but I'd think most try to find out a bit about their potential meet first?

APPLY stands out more when the rest of the profile stinks of arrogance, over confidence or full of head up arse stuff.

The phrase 'if your lucky enough to meet us' always makes me chuckle

No; but I set the tone by describing profiles as "sexual CVs"....

"I think there are a lot of people who use that term seriously "

There are. And those are the ones I'm referring to. If you're using 'apply' then why not just hold a hoop out for people to jump through, put obstacles out to be conquered or set some kind of mission to complete..??!!

Although if doing the last one make sure the message won't self destruct, might take some explaining...

I've not particularly noticed this, I don't think it's something men tend to put on their profiles

A meet I had once described getting me to bed as having more stages than the x factor process
