Do you mean you can cast on, that is create the first amount of stitches? Get a book, Dorling Kindersley must do one and they are really good, and follow the instructions.
Good luck |

Yep, I got that bit but did your grandma show you how to knit or just tell you? |

When my mum taught me I was 7 and she told me to say "in, round, over, out" to myself, so put the needle in put the wool round, hook it over and pull the loop out. That's no help at all I suspect |

People laugh at me when I take the crochet out of my bag. Even in my doctors office while I was waiting to be carted off in an ambulance lol. But, the amount of conversations that started because of it would surprise you. Have one of my blankets thrown over my legs now
Would love to be better at following patterns for knitting though |

It probably will be once I practice more. What are the best type of needles and wool to start with? |

Just buy ordinary grey metal needles, not too small and if possible a cotton mix in a lightish colour, black or dark colours are really difficult to see. Relax so that you don't pull the wool too tight and make something small, a scarf, a tie or even just a square. |

"To learn how to knit make me really uncool? "
Not at all. It's a good thing to learn. I taught myself to knit & crochet using you tube video's & blogs. Wasn't bothered if I was cool or not. & my kids loved me for it. They all got hats & blankets & loads of other stuff out of it. |

Which was easier to learn? Which do you prefer doing? |

"Hope you don't mind me answering again. I prefer crochet, it's more portable and seems to grow more quickly. I find it easier.
No it's fine. Did you learn to knit first or crochet first? "
I learned to knit when I was 7 and crochet when I was 25 |

For me I found Crocheting easier to learn. I get a bit muddled with knitting patterns but can read a crochet one no problem. X |

I think it's a great idea and you should learn to knit or indeed any other crafts if you have an interest in it.
My nan and then my mum taught me to knit and I have knitted jumpers in the past. I remember my big red fluffy jumper because I wanted to look like Robert Smith.
I also sew and make clothes, mainly 50s style circle skirts and dresses, the fabrics you can get are amazing. It is lovely to be able to create something unique. |
