So I do this every year.
Going to get the money from my penny jar changed today.
It's 7" high and 12 " round. There is all sorts in there from 1ps to 2pound coins.
Whoever is closest when I get back I will have put £5 in the first charity box I see

Right everyone if my maths are correct cambscouple where the closest. There was £221.38 after my 9p in the £1 that they take for charity.
So on their behalf I donated £5 to help the heros which was the tin on the counter.
Most I've had in it so far over the years

Dammit. I came in late to this.
I was just working out the volume of each of the uk coins and the percentage chance of each coin in a handful of random change (from the total minted stats) based on x coins in a handful.
Then we could get the value and volume of random handful, divide into the total jar volume and get the number f handfuls per jar. Then approximate the value of the jar.

" but how would we work out what is a handful, will itmbe based on a 6ft 6 man's hands or a petite 5 ft woman's hands.
To flawed I'm afraid |

The volume of the hand is just a means by which to estimate a sample size for working out the approximate value. A 6ft6 hand would hold more coins, have more value but the ratio of handfuls to the jar would be smaller.
Your 5ft petite hands would have less monetary value but fit into the jar more times.
Still flawed?

" your going to be a bundle of laughs on a date lol.
Wonder if your way of doing it would be nearer the mark than just looking at the jar and guessing
