No, they were a few seats down from us... and I now know how to say, "Ya fookin scumbag scousers' ... in Bengalise!!

That wasn't meant as an insult to anyone from Liverpool. I was just trying to say what they atmos at the match was like - I knew the two sets of fans didn't like each other but never realised just how much! The insults flew thick and fast throughout the game and when Gerrard got sent off you'd have thought he was a paedo by the reaction of the United fans. Bit sad and pathetic really.

So Berbatov dived. So what. So do many other players from hundreds of other teams. They all do it and tough luck Liverpool got caught out by it. I notice nobody has said Gerrard deserved to walk for going in feet first and studs up.

Bitter Liverpool fans just can't stomach the fact that United are going to surpass them in number of titles won this year. I am so looking forward to May when we can finally say to them: "We're top and the facts can't dispute it."

I think you may be correct about Fergie. The man is 70 years old and won't last forever but all the indications he's given out himself are that he intends to remain in place until his health gives out. I hope he does, as we need him at the helm until we surpass Liverpool's 5 European Cup honours (we're on 3 at the moment, but I don't think we can win it this year as Real and Barca are too strong).

I honestly can't imagine United without Fergie as manager. It seems incomprehensible.

If he drops down dead on the sideline during a game will the ref award united a penalty? Or does he actually have to be over the line and not technically in a shooting position?

"If man u dont win anything u could become a Real or Barca fan.

So, let's just recap...

I'm a Man Utd fan, born in London, living in Newcastle and because of that I'm a plastic fan..

Whereas you, a Liverpool supporter, living in the Midlands, is a true Scouser?

Maybe you were born there, I don't know as you haven't mentioned it, but people follow whatever team they choose to follow regardless of where they live or where they come from. To call them 'plastic' just because they aren't from the town of the team they follow is very very immature.

I was hoping for a great game of football yesterday and the early penalty and Gerrard's red card prevented that. Football suffered and the fans suffered but to be hair to the ref, there WAS a blatant penalty United should have had in the 2nd half that Webb didn't award, and that's probably because he reviewed the first half incident during the break and knew he'd fucked it up.

The best team won yesterday and I don't say that because they played the best yesterday but because Liverpool have lost NINE times this season already, whereas United have lost only once (to West Ham in the Mickey Mouse Cup).

Liverpool will be back, one day, in the far off future of that I'm sure, but by then we'll have eclipsed any trphy haul Liverpool have and they'll be playing catch up for once.

Ok, I'll admit to a few assumptions on my part, but you said you drove to Manchester and passed more Man Utd fans heading there too so it was quite logical to assume you were going to the match.

As for me supporting Man Utd because of their success it shows you have made an assumption about me too.

The facts of it are when I was a young boy, with a brother a year older than me, I wanted to support Spurs (being a Londoner) but he supported them already and being the older of us he basically threatened to twat me one if I didn't choose another team (kids stuff I know but the threat seemed very real when I was 8 years old). It would have been so easy to support Liverpool back then as they were winning everything under the sun but I read about Goerge Best and that was it. I've been a Manchester United fan ever since, but, when I first started supporting them we didn't win a fookin thing for years and my earliest football memory is watching them lose the FA Cup Final to Southampton.

I'm 46 this year, so that makes me a fan of some 38 years standing. Longer than some of what you believe to be true Mancs have been alive.

Doesn't seem quite so plastic now eh?

p.s I also support Gateshead because that's where we live, I support Luton as that's where I was raised (we moved out of London when I was 4), and I was born in Chelsea, so if they are playing anyone other than United I support them too. (The Spurs connection mentioned in my post above comes from my father who supported them)

Still plastic?

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Ah, the bitterness of the non-premiership teams' supporters as they rail at the inequities caused by kids in their towns supporting PL teams, then blaming it on the adults who support those teams.

I was born in Manchester. I've supported Utd since 1976 - not because of any glory, as there really wasn't any...but because they were the local team.

I no longer live in Manchester, but did maintain a season ticket for about 6 years a while back - you try organising days off, night shifts, and transport of 150 miles each way for every home game, then tell me I'm a glory hunting plastic supporter.

it's lazy unthinking bollocks spouted by people too ignorant to colour in The Sun's logo, and ignores the fact that Liverpool are huge in Ireland, and Chelsea are supported all over the country too.

But why assume that just because the service stations of the M6 are full of red shirts on a Saturday that either

a) they don't come from Manchester originally

b) they constitute the majority of the attendance.

As proof - during the fuel protests of 2000 - at their very worst, when we were all struggling to eke out half a tank....Utd played Anderlecht in a midweek game. If the match-going supporters had "all travelled from Surrey", there's no way OT would have been half full, let alone 95%.

Oh, and I've been to Highfield Road (Busst's testimonial) - very traditional, nestling in cobbled streets. Wouldn't call it "a hole", and can only guess that the away end at OT had been redecorated by the previous occupants the last time Coventry played there.

All the Mancs sorry I mean Cockneys singing how much they hate scousers, about being on the dole etc. There is that idiot Rooney a fellow scouser happy to play for them and listen to the hate chants against scousers. Very strange.

It doesn't make you plastic if you support a team not from your city. However if you say live in Bath, support Liverpool and have never been to watch them then you are plastic. One of my mates works down South. He works with a couple of Liverpool fans. They have never been to a game. They are from down South not Liverpool. There is a certain percentage of football fans that chose a team to support based on their success. That is why teams like Liverpool have so many non Scouse supporters and Man United has so many non Mancs who support them. Of course Everton does not get away with it. We know some of our fans are non Scousers.

I think about 10 - 12 years ago they done a survey at home crowds. If I remember right it was something like

13% of Everton’s home crows are not from Liverpool

48% of Liverpool’s home crowd are not from Liverpool

90% of Many United’s home crowd are not from Manchester

To me those percentages speak volumes lol.

"

god you man utd fans just have to get the last word..

coventry dont play at highfield road and if u check the record we beat u at old trafford last time we were there.

anyway wasnt calling u a plastic fan thought u said u were from manchester..

"90% of Man United’s home crowd are not from Manchester

"

Bollocks. Total utter bollocks.

I was at the game on Sunday and the accent I heard the most from the people around me, outside the stadium, and in the service stations was Mancunian.

I know where Coventry play now, but if I'd claimed Busst's testimonial was at the Ricoh, you'd have taken great delight in pointing out the error....

Nothing you said actually addresses my points though.

Rooney may not be fit for the weekend so Fergie may stick with last weeks forward line up of Berbatov and Webb
