DONCASTER

Having been members for over 11 years ( apart fromthe past six months ) it always makes us smile when we read all this legal stuff on peoples profiles about Sydney University, and legal proceedings etc..........Well, we had our profile pictures stolen and used on various swingers sites and we did exactly what you say.

a) Having suffered the embarassment of admitting to the police that we were swingers they were not in the least bit interested.

b) We complained to the Police complaints commission who couldnt care less.

c) We hired a speacialist lawyer to track down the sick individual who had stolen our identity and thousands of pounds later we were no nearer finding the person let alone getting them to court and they were UK based let alone people from far flung countries !!

d) The fake Facebook account was eventually closed and the photos removed but unless you are prepared to take google on in the high court they will not reveal the IP address of the individual, more lawyers, more legal fees !!!

Just thought we would put that out there, if you have that on your profile and someone does steal your identity be prepared for legal expenses running into tens of thousands, more, considerably more if they are from Sydney University !!!

xx

You hired a lawyer? Can I ask what for? I could have told you they wouldn't give the IP address to you and that pictures online aren't yours anymore. Did someone actually try to steal your identity or was it just your pics they were using? I'm curious.

It is sad that this happened to you, though, OP.

Sorry to hear that, that's why we never show our face on our profile, just not worth the risk, we keep them in our friends list...you are more trusting than us

Our identity was stolen in every respect apart from them using the information for getting credit etc, well we could not find any evidence of that, the cheeky sods even used our ages and location as thiers, once they had lifted Ninas photos from Fab they used them to create, Facebook, and three other swingers sites that we found out about.

Aparantly, Facebook will give out an IP address but only in a court of law to a member of the legal profession and only then if the injured party can prove that they are the legal owners of those photos / identity.

As for the police they were only prepared to investigate if we produced proof that they were using our identity to gain credit, buy goods etc.

kinky land

I thought it was only fraud or theft if someone used your details to gain something through deception?

It's the Internet. As soon as you upload it, it's open. I would report the images of me as images of me (if i ever came across any, highly unlikely i will) but id never dream of wasting time trying to work out who or why

And yet here you are again with face pics on your public profile.

You always retain the copywrite to any pictures you took on the net.

been able to do anything about image theft is a different thing.

The Sydney bollocks on profiles is a waste of time

LOL......That was the reason for our blog !! The whole Sydney thing is a load of bollocks, having gone down the legal route ourselves and know the kind of costs onvolved would someone really take on Sydney University or anyone therein !We agree with you, not much point taking up space on your profile with it, as one profile said ( we giggled )

To Sydney University - fill your boots and bang one off !.........LOL

We are still perfectly happy to keep our face pics on here whatever.

I think you have to be prepared for anything you put online to go to places you don't expect.

The Sydney thing is pointless, as is the various congressional/EU warnings

What is it about an association to anything Australian that gives something credibility???

I shake my head when I see posts like that, as it's so obviously a hoax, and anyone who posts the 'Sydney University' paragraph will probably believe anything they're told as long as they hear the same story from different sources.

Takes 10 minutes to check Snopes.com or Hoax Slayer.

In the age of information, not checking facts is no longer an excuse for ignorance.

95 ! We are hurt........LOL

No we are not but prefer not to be tagged with a number, people look at our profile and think we are either sexy and worth contacting or not, its up to them. Having said that, if someone is really that bothered about our ages we will of course tell them the truth, loads lie on here about ages.

The blog was not about our faces being on display, we accept the risks and we were unfortunate to fall fowl of a total bastard ! Our blog was a comment on how futile the whole " Sydney University " thing is knowing that nobody would actually go down the route of taking anyone to court, or if they are thinking about it, its not worth the legal fees finding out what we paid to find out.

I'm sorry to hear that you felt throwing money at it would solve the problem, it doesn't as you have just stated.

However I am a little incredulous that you are setting yourselves up once again.

Bottom line is anything you put online like pics vids blogs etc etc can all be used by almost anyone . You dont want that information out there then dont put it online . No amount of pseudo legal shit at the bottom of a profile is going to stop it . All it does from my point of view is highlight the intellectual inadequences of a person who seriously thinks it would work or perhaps they have an inability to think for themselves and see it on every other profile so they put it on theirs . Either way its a waste of time and space not to mention arrogant . I think Sydney uni has far better things to do than look at random profiles ........so aye crack on sydney take anything you want from my profile lmao .

IP Addresses will prove nothing, you'd need the mac address, i probably could of done more damage to the individual with a link to their profile than all your expense has cost.

pretty much the reason I never do face pictures OP that and discretion too, fuck having some weirdos steal my pictures and plaster them all over some website for their own personal gratification...

As fantasies_wanted pointed out, the whole Sydney University thing is false anyway and that thing people keep plastering on their profiles is a waste of time. There is no Sydney Uni, any similar names place has never done a survey, they have never used anyone's photos. It's just a (fake) meme that has been going round and round for years.
