I'm thinking of getting one, if not both, nipples pierced. Question is, how long does it typically take to heal and how my sensitivity do they have afterwards? |

Get both done. You can always remive one if you don't like the look.
Mine healed fast. Just like any other piercing - keep it clean. Sensitivity heightened. I love mine. |

Get both done. You can always remive one if you don't like the look.
Mine healed fast. Just like any other piercing - keep it clean. Sensitivity heightened. I love mine. "

I am a man so my nipples may not be quite the same but I got one if mine pierced about six years ago and love it
it never really hurt and certainly never bled except for the day I caught it on a door handle. I would say it was ready for light play after a couple of weeks and fully healed in 3/4 months. A nipple is one if the deepest piercings so full healing does take time.
Several of the ladies in my life have had both nipples pierced with broadly similar results. It shouldn't prevent you from doing every day tasks even on the day it's pierced. |

I have one done and it took quite a while to settle properly, I'd say about 5/6 months until it was pain free. I can't say its increased sensitivity but I love it and was well worth it. I would say to get both done though. Take arnica tablets for a few days before to ease swelling and pain |

Had nipped and clip hood done . From my experience they both healed pretty quickly . No noticed any increase or decrease in sensitivity . Very individual thing though . Any concerns you have any reputable piercer would be happy to go over any questions you have.
I will say I'm glad I got nipple and clit hood done . Good luck what ever you decide to do .  |

Not personal at all, C was playing with them (gently) within a couple of days. Fingers only though, not mouth.
Needed to clean it with sea salt water for a few days, then just keep cleaning and turning it in the shower. Be careful when cleaning and when removing your bra. Took me a little while to get used to it but soon learned after catching it a few times lol |

There should be a photo on my profile. It has increased sensitivity and I love it. But everyone will be slightly different. |

If you mean hood piercings (very few people will actually pierce clits and that's a very dangerous piercing to get) then I was back in a rock climbing harness within 24 hours.
I had sex after about two weeks, and it was mostly healed by about then. I continued to use barrier protection for about three months for any kind of fluidy sex (oral or normal). |

Had my clit hood pierced and took about 3/4 weeks but I am a slow healer.
I was recommended Zinc tablets by my piercer to boost my immune system. Few days before and 10 days after.
I also took some Arnica homeopathy tablets on the day and 3/4 days after to help with the healing. Took some painkillers straight after the piercing was done, and I was totally fine with my piercing.
I heard that it can take up to a year for a pierced nipple to heal.

FWIW - you shouldn't take piercing bars out while they're new. Not even to clean them. Just clean them in with salt solution, and leave them in place for at least eight weeks or so. If you need a different size bar your piercer should change it for free. |

Had my clit hood pierced and took about 3/4 weeks but I am a slow healer.

You can ask for either, but your piercer will give you guidance on what is better for your anatomy and that piercing.
I would advise that you listen to their recommendation if you are not already experienced at knowing how your body heals piercings. |

One piece of advice I would give to everyone is to go to a professional, reputable piercer and to follow any instructions they give. Mine gave me a printed care sheet and a bottle of saline solution.
Wasp Hunter is correct that one shouldn't take out the bar or ring for a while, you can clean it by moving it side to side (or round in the case of a ring) while applying cleaning solution. I think I started taking mine out to clean it after 3 or 4 weeks but everyone is different. Your body will tell you when it's ready.
Mine was healed completely after 6 months and I had a new, thicker bar, which is the one in the photo. One thing I do find is that occasionally I lose one of the screw balls on the end when I am camping. Something about sleeping on self-inflating camping mattress. So I keep a small bag of inexpensive replacements.
When I was thinking of getting mine done, I asked friends for their experiences....which ranged from "I hardly felt it" to "IT hurt like hell" to one case of "I was too d*unk to tell" (NOT recommended)
In my case I felt no pain at the time of the piercing, it was slightly stingy for maybe 12 hours....thereafter the only time it has hurt was about two weeks in when I caught it on a door handle. But everyone is different. |

Ever known someone who had open heart surgery? It takes longer than 6 months to fully recover.
As for piercings, they are fun. My pierced nipple is more sensitive and fun to play with. I also like the way it looks. And it's not like the piercing ever prevented me from doing every day activities. Unlike surgery I didn't have to miss a day of work, I had it done on a Saturday at 11am....went out of the piercing parlour straight into a film festival for the rest of the afternoon/evening. Checked it when I got home, found there was no bleeding or anything and carried on as normal from the next day. I didn't engage in any nipple play for a couple of weeks but at no time did it stop me from doing everyday tasks.
The same goes for female friends who have had nipple piercings....and VCH's too though those do sting from what I am told..for a few days. |

My left nipple is still pierced, other piercings have migrated out over time as my body seems to want to get rid of them..
It was quick and fuss free to pierce, there's some pain but it's momentary and soon goes. Besides, it's all part of the experience.
Mine healed very quick but then I caught it on a wrist band and tore the nipple itself.
Best thing for cleaning and aftercare is saline solution, don't be tempted by other fancy products offered. Quickest a piercing healed for me was whilst on holiday and swimming in the sea, it healed in a period of weeks..
Enjoy it, have fun, you can always remove them... |

Maybe it was just me, but I found that getting it done in the winter meant that the cold got into the ring and made my nipple very cold! |

I'm always losing the balls on my belly piercing so keep extras handy but thats a good thought. |

I lost most of the sensation in my nipples, and it didn't come back even when I took them out. This is a small risk, but a risk nonetheless. |

Make sure that your piercer positions them exactly the way you want them, have them marked for piercing when you're standing up.
One of mine was wonky and bugged me for ages until it came out...

aargh tried to skim over the pain and length of time to heal replies -- i have ummed and ahhed for years over this - but after recent chats with someone have decided yes i will at last - defo a fingers in ears and eyes shut time so i dont change my mind |

Apart from what everyone else has said may I just add don't be tempted to play with the jewellery while it's healing as body oil from fingertips being drawn into the raw wound is a major form of infection. Clean the bar ends regularly without removing them and with hot water with a little bit of salt water and a bit of tea tree oil cream applied to the openings if they become sore should ease them a bit. Expect anywhere from 6 months to a year to heal fully though as they're a tricky one to heal fully. |

Most piercers will advise against putting any creams anywhere near a puncture wound - which is what piercings are. If they are dry, a dab of olive or coconut oil can help. |

I only use a little bit of tea tree round the entry hole if it flares up and reddens as it takes the soreness away. |

It may be worth saying that while full healing will often me 6 months plus for a nipple piercing (which is effectively a deep tissue cut wound), it's not like it hurts for those 6 months.
If you're squeamish then look away.
The wound might weep a little pus or even the odd drop of blood for a week or two. I was lucky, mine didn't. But really it's just like having a deep cut, and I am sure we've all cut ourselves accidentally by falling on sharp stones, glass etc. Keep it clean, use saline solution (sea salt water will do), don't play with it if it is painful etc. |

I have healed multiple other body piercings, on all kinds of places on my body, have have a set of stretched piercings too. And I couldn't heal my nipple piercings either. I took them out after two years and got them redone, but ended up taking them out after another year or so.
Some piercings, it's just not meant to be. Although I'm trying again in the new year... |

When I have lost the screw-on balls (what *are* they really called) on my travels and gone to a piercer to get new ones they always comment about how well mine was done. I think this is part of the key, choosing a skilful piercer.
But some people's bodies will simply reject the piercing.
Yep. I looked after mine exactly as I should, and changed from titanium to surgical grade plastic in case it was an allergy but in the end it was too much to bear. Yet I've got my ears pierced with no problems
I have healed multiple other body piercings, on all kinds of places on my body, have have a set of stretched piercings too. And I couldn't heal my nipple piercings either. I took them out after two years and got them redone, but ended up taking them out after another year or so.
Some piercings, it's just not meant to be. Although I'm trying again in the new year..."
I had trouble initially getting my wrist piercings to not migrate. When the scar tissue had healed after they'd come out I had them redone through the thicker scar tissue which worked better as it was harder for them to rise to the surface. Bit drastic but it worked, not sure I'd want to try it with nipples though. |

Listen to your piercing specialist, chat to them first and make sure they're the one for you.
A couple of girls that I have gone with to have piercings have experienced a lot less pain than they'd convinced themselves they were going to feel.
The mind can play silly tricks on you convincing you that it will be much worse than it is, almost putting you into a shock like state... If you feel light headed after, have a nice sweet cup of coffee/tea and a sit down.
The tiny, fleeting pain is well worth it for the benefits.
