Agreed, government is the worst. They will decide our fate on both topics, we have zero choice unless we all stand together to get them out which sadly won't happen.
So since that won't happen, climate change is already having its effect, making millions round the globe homeless, they move, eventually more and more will come here, sea levels will rise, population when i was born 4.6 billion, now 7.3 billion.
Then you got this whole lets sort isis out, not really afraid of them, more afraid of the outcome of more fighting in the middle east, Russia, the propaganda used by the media almost pushing for a world war. So much shit in this world, so glad i dont have kids cuz its difficult for me, they arent gonna have anything left at this rate. |

"You say first "
I would probably say climate change will have the biggest impact, but I'm sure we spend a hell of a lot more on counter terrorism.
I think if we look at the huge strain immigration has put on the EU this year, we also need to think what will happen when the oil producing countries (of which the middle east has quite a few) either run out of oil, or there is soo much CO2 in the atmosphere we just cant make use of it anymore. Add to that the climate change affects where areas will become uninhabitable, and we are going to see huge movements of people.
Those movements can potentially then lead to strain, tension and eventually violence. But i think we are more likely to see that in EU border countries, rather than in Britain. |

"Which do you think is a bigger threat to both the world, and to the UK? Jihadi terrorism, or climate change? "
Terrorists (of any flavour) are only a threat if we allow them to be.
Climate change is a myth created to extort money.
Neither are a particular threat. |

I was very concerned to hear the juniper berry crop was poor this year.
Heartened when I also heard that most producers buy from abroad.
A bit sad we aren't self sufficient but at least we won't run short of gin |

Hello,
climate change has been over-hyped and the consequences are being wildly exaggerated. There is very little warming, nowhere near the figures quoted as the data is constantly being 'adjusted', upwards nor surprisingly.
We, collectively, are paying for poor solutions decided by those politicians and non governmental bodies are a huge waste of our money.

Men could, to be fair, prevent this by becoming more discerning about the women they impregnate. Unless of course they all just changed personality overnight after conception.
However, kudos for shoehorning your particular agenda into a wholly unrelated thread. |

It is very relevant we havr people climbing on the roof of Buckingham pAlCe yesterday to highlight the unfairness of the family courts in the uk
if you think about it logically it's pretty worrying when a few blokes can get on the queens roof without being detected. What hope do we have against terrorism when we can't even keep our own house clean

The point being is we have our issues in this country from normal people that are disorganised. Our police and security services proved they can't stop un organised middle age men from getting on the roof of Buckingham palace .
They were carrying a 20 foot ladder dressed as super Heros for fucks sake
What hope do we have from trained soldiers that are trained to fit in and wait for the right time that when they die they go to heaven . And they want to die |

That's the crazy thing about surveillance and collection of metadata (to which Home Sec. Teresa May is planning to add to official powers to harvest your life)...
You end up with SOOOO much data, that more time is spent attempting to analyse it, rather than in the field, so to speak.
It also seems to lead to 'false-positives', rather than actual terrorists, which has the effect of polarising the very communities we should be reaching out to.
It's an odd one, and I'm not sure the security services have quite the right balance. |

Not sure they have the right balance?

Give that a gander. All to hold data processing equipment. Never in a lifetime could they go through all that they collect to find useable data. There is no balance.

Climate change by a factor of billions. It should be the thing that all governments live and breathe day and night, as their number one priority. It isn't, so ask yourself how reputable and focused on others that they really are.
Choose how much we harm the lives of billions in the future, the rest of the planet's wildlife and habitat. Or plan to look good tomorrow by planning a war. |

"Hello,
climate change has been over-hyped and the consequences are being wildly exaggerated. There is very little warming, nowhere near the figures quoted as the data is constantly being 'adjusted', upwards nor surprisingly.
We, collectively, are paying for poor solutions decided by those politicians and non governmental bodies are a huge waste of our money.
Alec
so 99 percent of climate scientists are wrong and some bloke on fabswingers is correct?"
Well that 99% figure is very debatable for a start. But even if you accept that surly even a fabswinger is entitled to his own point of view. People will decide for themselves the credibility of his point.
And, just for the record, before 1492 ish most of the learned people on earth thought that it was either flat or half the size that it actually is. |

That's not actually true. There were scientific proofs of the roundness of the earth going back to the ancient Greeks. By the time of Columbus most educated people knew the earth was round. It was mostly the uneducated poor who didn't.
I don't have a comment on climate change. Just noting factual inaccuracies.

You are correct about the flat earth which is why I added the bit about half the size it actually is. This is why, when Columbus reached Cuba, he thought he'd reached India. |

But again, the Greeks had a proof of the circumference of the earth. Read a bit on Eratosthenes. The reason why Columbus had such a hard time getting funding for his journey was because royal mathematicians knew that Columbus had the wrong calculations for the size of the earth. It was not an inaccuracy that most people shared.
So it is a very poor example to use against climate change.

"Well that 99% figure is very debatable for a start"
It certainly is, if the Cook report (from which the 97% of scientists believe that CO2 is a factor in global warming was widely published), analysis shows that 64 out of nearly 12,000 scientists explicitly believed that there is a 50% chance that CO2 is the cause, but the vast majority believed in varying degrees that while it is a factor it's extent is not significant.
I believe in the evidence that what we were expected to see just has not happened, this has been rolling on for thirty years now.

Academics, including scientists, can study all sort of phenomena. They don't need to put forth theories just to get paid. They could just research something else.
In fact, it happens all the time that researchers study something to find no discernible results. They then study something tangential.
Its someone's job to test the water at reservoirs, for example, to make sure the composition is correct. They don't need to lie and say that it isn't correct just to keep getting paid. Likewise, we shouldn't disbelieve their results simply because they get paid to find them.

For those thinking that earlier climate predictions were a bit off - of course that's likely to be the case. With the passage of time we've stockpiled masses more data and also benefit now from huge increases in computer power, to crunch the data. The prediction models have also been improved and our understanding of earth's climate, from how our oceans and air systems are involved in long term influences upon it, to greater understanding of ancient ice drills, and their evidence of atmospheric gases throughout history.
Terrorism kills very few people and climate change threatens the lives of millions. More importantly, imo, it threatens most of all the other life forms that we share our planet with. Humans are just a tiny blip in the planet's lifetime but a few years of us could ruin so much. I prefer to take a longer term view over what's important than wrongly assume it'll mostly mean more outdoors warm weather, so can't be a bad thing for some Europeans.

Jesus - when will people learn that reliable climate data represents a millisecond in Earth's climate history and is therefore unreliable? When we examine climate via the ice in ancient glaciers, for example - guess what ??? The Earth has had periods of extreme warmth and cold totally unconnected to CO 2 etc. - it's just another way to extract tax from you - why can you not see that ??????? |

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. A gun is just a tool which like every other tool in the world can be misused. Should we also ban knives, hammers, or any other item that can be used to cause harm. Just my 2€ |

What you say is not strictly correct. Although you are correct about the period that we are able to look at in comparison to the age of the earth. The ice cores taken from the poles go back some 750,000 years and we can analyse this ice and determine the levels of gasses in the atmosphere at any time in that period with great accuracy and relate it to events we know about.
We can also look at the cores and spot events by changes in the colour of the ice.
Prior to the industrial revolution the ice was white, since the 18th century the ice has changed colour to grey! Like it or not we are burning so much coal that we live in a world full of soot! It does not take a genius to work out that burning that much coal must be releasing heat into the atmosphere and cant be good for us. |

bit of red herring that one...... guns have one design use; to kill or injure from a distance. a hammers design use is to knock nails into wood, hit other tools such as chisels etc.
the fact is that if guns vanished over night there would be far less killing in the world. |

"Hello,
climate change has been over-hyped and the consequences are being wildly exaggerated. There is very little warming, nowhere near the figures quoted as the data is constantly being 'adjusted', upwards nor surprisingly.
We, collectively, are paying for poor solutions decided by those politicians and non governmental bodies are a huge waste of our money.
Alec
so 99 percent of climate scientists are wrong and some bloke on fabswingers is correct?
-Courtney
You are correct about the flat earth which is why I added the bit about half the size it actually is. This is why, when Columbus reached Cuba, he thought he'd reached India.
But again, the Greeks had a proof of the circumference of the earth. Read a bit on Eratosthenes. The reason why Columbus had such a hard time getting funding for his journey was because royal mathematicians knew that Columbus had the wrong calculations for the size of the earth. It was not an inaccuracy that most people shared.
So it is a very poor example to use against climate change.
-Courtney

Can't argue with that either. Guess I was relying too much on the ignorance of others.

"or there is soo much CO2 in the atmosphere we just cant make use of it anymore."
How on earth do you think that will happen?
Any who terrorism is not a significant threat in any way to the UK. Your bathtub has a higher chance of killing you.
Climate change get is inevitable man made or not if you think that after billions of years of flux the earth is suddenly going to remain the same forever because some of its smarter primates built things in some silly places you're mistaken.
But I've always been curious what would have happened if we continued with either the rather risky operation plowshare method or a more conventional tunnel/canal method of flooding the Sahara from the Mediterranean.
(Most of the saharan dessert is actually below sea level)
As it would radically change the climate of Africa |

On a point of fact.
All viruses are immune to antibiotics and always have been. Antibiotics are only ever effective against bacteria. |

I did make the argument, the list is right there on wiki and concludes that the 97% figure is peer reviewed!.
The science of climate change is unanimously agreed by 99.99% of scientists.
Now 97% of experts concur that human c02 output is speeding up the natural occurrence, to a point which will cause us untold troubles in the years ahead (they put a figure of 2 degrees above pre industrial levels).
Stating anything to the contrary is a blatant lie as I said!.
I'm well open to disagreement but please show me the evidence!... If it's just your beliefs, then quite frankly I may as well be chatting to an Islamic extremist. |

The way that figure keeps rising actually increases my skepticism of the whole thing. |

99.99% is the actual science of climate change the 97% is the figure they put on scientists who think that the evidence shows human c02 output is speeding up the natural cycles!
It's really not as complicated as your making out!.
This whole thing comes back to that point on the other thread, you wish to deny evolution/climate change despite the overwhelming evidence that it's true!
Now that's fine, I'm just pointing out how you personally would ridicule anybody for stating the same about the Holocaust! And why because the overwhelming evidence is that the Holocaust took place! And quite frankly you'd be right to ridicule someone for denying something that's contrary to the majority evidence!
Critical rational thinking!... It goes along way and gets us where we are today |

The last great ice age started 10,000 years ago it was about 5 degrees colder then than today, were currently at global temperatures never seen by humans, we don't know the exact problems that will come with another 2 degrees rise but the evidence suggests they won't be good and that they could be here in just 80 years time!.
The bronze age was just a period we attached to human ingenuity at the time like the stone age or iron age or technological age!
Natural climate change might come anyway but I think slowing it down several thousand years is surely better than just saying... Oh fuck it |
