On the other hand, rather than relying on the tabloids, you could look up anabolic steroids on the NHS website for a full insight into possible side effects.

Personal challenge, because that's what they want to look like, obsession with pushing their body to be a certain way, body dysmorphic disorders, loads of possible reasons. And yeah some will be because they think that's what will help them pull.

I like muscly men. Don't care if they've taken steroids.... I'm not marrying them, just fucking them!

On the other hand I like guys who are just toned too. Some are like that naturally others have to work at it... Equally I don't care how they do it or why.

Could equally say the same about people who have cosmetic surgery, that's risky. Or people who take slimming pills

Wrong, just cause someone wants to bulk up doesn't say it's for vanity - it's getting to a place that they are happy with their body - do women get criticised for having plastic surgery & get accused of having vanity issues - no, they do it as they are uncomfortable with a certain area of their bodies & once changed it gives more confidence

Nope, pretty widely accepted that even most mainstream gyms are full of people taking PEDs. The evidence is there to be seen if you know what to look for. We've become used to a particular look and assume that people can get near it naturally. There's little evidence that anyone ever has. It is possible to get lean and muscular but the bodies that appear on magazines (fitness, not talking about the bodybuilding freaks) are almost all chemically assisted.

Having said that the same can be said for almost all sports.

Well I'd say that's not typical of all gyms - I doubt even a fraction of the guys at my gym are on steroids! I like a guy with a great body but also a great personality - so tend to meet 'good all-rounders' rather than sculpted bodies! Love having a ripped body on top of mine though! Mmmmm!

Hereford

You don't need 'roids to be ripped - its just a bodyfat percentage thing. You don't need 'roids to get big (although I concede that you would get bigger using them).

What you would need to be on gear for is to remain very lean and gain muscle at the same time.

If you want to be a natural lifter, you will have to concede that you'll never achieve the size of those on gear, and when you bulk, you are going to get a bit fat.

I'm happy bulking and cutting. I value strength more than size anyway. Currently looking to cut as I only have 2 pairs of trousers that still fit...

Most would not know if a guy was on steroids.

The lean ripped not huge guys on the front of muscle and fitness etc that women dribble over are more than likely on a steroid or two.

just because people take them it does not mean you will be as big as Ronnie Coleman.

Or maybe they just don't fancy that Inconceivable, I know.

I personally prefer men who are fit through sport, rather than lifting and bodybuilding, it's a different sort of look. Or those who do weights only to improve their performance in their chosen sport, not just to sculpt a certain look.

A real man? A real man, to me, is someone who is himself, if he has muscle then he has it for himself, not because he thinks he should. If he'd scrawny then he is because it's how he wants to be, not because he thinks he needs to be. Being comfortable in your own body and not letting any forms of media influence you on how you should look, meet these "idols" in person and then see how much Photoshop was done on them prior to them being in our eyesight

A bit of an overstatement that 8 out of 10 guys in the gym are taking steroids

Most of my circle consists of fighters, personal trainers, competing body builders and all those kale and steak type. Virtually all except the body builders are steroids free and they all tend to train at specialist weight lifting gyms.

I'm not sure if the OP is referring to mainstream gyms such as virgin, David Lloyd, Nuffield etc.

Either way, many people are very informed on muscle building these days including supplements, protein intake, macros, recovery and can gain muscle with all this knowledge. Steroids overall affect your hormones, which with modern knowledge can be changed naturally.

I assume you dislike muscle?

"In most gyms now a days it seems to be about 8 out of 10 guys are on steroids

So ladies an gents ,Do you like the steroid look "

im guessing if I went to your gym you would be including me in that 8 out of 10 people when ive never touched and gear in all my 17 years of training.

I have friends that take it responsibly and don't abuse it and they look great, much bigger and defined than myself but im happy at my size.

they are quiet guys and not angry personalitys and the steroids havnt changed that.

I dont think they would care what others thought about their physiques aslong as thry are happy with themselfs thats all that matters.

For every person (in general) that doesn't like muscles there is someone else that does...just like not everyone likes a skinny physique but there will be people that do and same goes for big bodied people too.

isnt it great that we are all different and come in all different shapes and sizes.

I have heard of that story and I can't understand that excuse at all. Steroids themselves are not addictive.they are not a psychological drug.

to me he doesn't look like he has been on them long.

No one knows me on here so I don't mind admitting I have taken them. I see no end of bull shit posted about them from people who don't know anything about steroids.

I have never abused them.I have always been careful. When taking I never drank alcohol. I ate good food and I trained 5 days a week hard.

I did get a bit bigger and stronger and leaner.

No! They look more like a cloud then a man . I prefer guys with a little extra meat on them or toned. But not rock hard abs or muscles. My ex had a nice 6pack, he was the most uncomfortable person to hug up to. OP, don't change. You look great as you are.

It's very expensive .you should be using gear as well as growth h.

it increases the amount of muscle where steroids just make the ones you have thicker.

Ive never used gh due to the price.

originally it was retrieved from human brains.but these days it is a collection of amino acids.

Hmmmm, nice - I have a Tum which requires a bit of surgery after losing much weight as the excess body fat on it won't bloody shift & was looking in to it to see if it would work as an alternative to a mini tummie tuck - been told it may work but may not but for around £160 for 5 weeks it may be worth a try on the off chance to save 3/4K - what's your thoughts?

Quite happy to say that's not how my gym is. Since it's a uni gym they're quite good at discouraging steroid use.

Still have a "clean" sticker on my membership card from a campaign they ran couple of years back. Plenty of protein. Whet better!!

My Gym has sharps bins in the toilets and they are not for razors that's for sure. There is a hardcore of users that are easy to spot they are also a decent bunch of lads who will always come and give you a hand if you need them.

I use Testosterone prescribed daily and it makes me feel great so I can understand how you could potentially feel on an anabolic dose and not at all surprised people use it and perhaps get addicted.

I think as long as you use safely and are aware of the risks then have at it.

I stopped weight training in mid 20s,so like 20years ago and took up running and triathlons instead.

As pretty much everyone was on some sort of drug, be it as a bulking aid, strength, cutting etc..

Nice guy's turned into aggressive animals, not a great environment.

Lots of us were into kickboxing big time and many started using it and it was scary how strong and big some of them got.

So I got well our of it.

Started back in gym almost two years ago after retirement from other sport's, just want to stay in shape and be healthy.

The gym we use is a regular public type one, not designed for huge powerlifters, etc..

Great mix of people.

However it's is very obvious that lots of younger guy's are now taking them, most seem to be using purely for vanity and lots are quite young.

Now for those that don't know, recreational steroid use for vanity is a growing problem and while it may not be as immediately destructive as class A drugs, it can completely change someone, the long term medical problems that in some cases don't present until maybe year's later.

Oh yeah, don't forget some just randomly drop dead after abusing drugs such as clenbuterol etc..

It's pretty scary.

My point is.

It's extremely common these day's even more so than ever, only time will tell as to how much impact it will have on the NHS.

But guy's hard work and dedication will give lasting results. Yes it will take longer and u may not get huge and cut.

But there is no substitute for good old hard work, oh and by the way you still have to work hard to get results.

But think of the possible side effects.

Bitch tits, a back like a pizza, premature baldness, penile atrophy, sterility, liver damage, enlarged heart, violent mood swings the risk of sudden death.

To name but a few.

Your choice.

"Is it legal ?Yes, depends what country you are in and in UK it is legal to have it for private use.

Thought it was - users use it to strip down last body fat - expensive stuff though!

I'd recommend something completely different, but gathering information for an informed choice is important. Good luck - it can be tough just getting to the point you're at!!

"What do guys on roids look like??"

Really depends on what they are taking and at what point in their cycle they are on.

Also depends what they are taking it for.

But usually from my own observations.

Distended bloated belly, a kind of inflated look.

Ironically some can look fat yet still have a low body fat percentage.

Others are ripped to shreds yet still have big arm's, traps etc.

It's something that you just know when you look at someone.

It's not easy.

I have been around gyms and users for a while and when we talk the subject comes up and people ask.

it's not obvious and I have used and know users so how people not in the scene know is beyond me.

Many hormones are composed of amino acids, hence the -ine suffix, such as norepinephrine. A lot of supplements these days that are just conconctions of amino acids, purchased by people who believe - presumably - that they are ingesting these insufficiently, and their body will make more of the hormones.

Power lifters have popped out bellies as they concentrate on upper body & many don't take gear

Both my older brothers are ripped & bulky but neither have ever took gear - they are sports fit (skating, judo & mountain biking) & work very hard to achieve what they look like -

Yeah and my nan is ripped to shreds due to lots of gardening.

I don't understand your points here.

I am not pro steroids.

There are many people who have never taken roids who are ripped and muscular.

As for powerlifters.

There is a difference between a big belly and a distended bloat from roid abuse.

Powerlifters hold extra weight for completely different reasons.

This conversation is going in circles so I will participate no more.

Good example of roid abuse.

I have more than an inkling. I've taken the stuff. I know it does not alter my mood at all. Your degree may as well be Latin.

"I don't. But I also don't think people are necessarily doing it because of what they think is attractive to other people anyway.

Why do you think they do it?"

Because like people who think they are never slim enough, some bodybuilders are never happy with how big they look. It doesn't kill as many people as anorexia does so doesn't get the same media coverage. But it's probably the same mental health illness. Looking at your body, and never being satisfied. Spending longer and training harder at the gym to the detriment of relationships and health, chasing the impossible. Poor barstards.

This... its easy to accuse someone of using but short of distended muscle bellies and obvious injection scarring there is no way of definitively knowing whether someone is on gear or not. Using doesnt automatically mean being massive in the same way being massive doesnt mean having to use.

It is possible to get huge without using, depending on what age you start training (16-20 year old males are flooded with test naturally, and that is the primary result of using anyway), how consistent you are and to a certain degree genetics.

Likewise it is possibly to use for years and still be a puffy mess if you dont put the required effort in. Generally speaking it is easier to put on mass and strip fat on gear, but you still have to work hard and be disciplined.

IMO its a personal choice, and whilst its not the way I would choose to go, as long as users are educated on potential risks then best of luck to them.

Most guys in most gyms are not taking steroids. If you believe they are, you are severely misinformed.

I would not personally meet people who take steroids. As a personal trainer, I understand the risks and I would not want to be with someone who treats their body in that way.
