Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Are you one of those people who checks the tariff on things, switches and keeps on top of the best deals?

Or, the other sort who lets things roll on because it's easier?

I went and checked what I was paying for my sim cards and got a reduction and a new 'free' tablet.

I'm a cheap ass. I'm always checking different prices and switching when appropriate.

This, if things become critical I eventually act.

I've never changed my bank account, although the bank has changed a few times. Now that they promise the switching service will handle everything I should but it still seems like a risky thing to do.

I always renegotiate at the end of contracts. I rarely change supplier, but threaten to leave constantly.

I must get around to doing that with Virgin.

Occasionally I'll end up with a company that is aweful in one way or another, but it happens as often as not anyway so, no, I guess it's never truly gone wrong for me

I am sod when booking flights and hotels

Careful with these sites though

But companies have been shown to adjust prices on other things, too. Like, for example, many travel companies will quote higher prices if you're searching on a Mac instead of a PC. Because Mac users, on average, have been shown to be willing to pay more for things. Delete them cookies

I can't be bothered, I know I should and that Martin chap would tell me off.

I do phone my car insurers every renewal and query the price, they usually reduce it, I do check to ensure it wouldn't be cheaper elsewhere too. I also used to ring my credit card loyalty department about every six months and ask them to review my interest rate and they would reduce it.

I would fail Martin's tests too.

I'd never even thought of calling John Lewis and asking them to review the interest rate. Next time I have a balance I can't pay off all at once I'll consider that. Or not.

It's worth it with mobile phones. My phone bill was cut from £47.50 to £7.50. Can't believe how much cheaper it is, but I've been with Vodafone around 10 years.

Central

I'm not loyal to a commercial operator that solely exists to bleed me of cash.

I switch most things every year or two. And use cash back sites to get money back for taking new contracts as well as internet purchases for anything.

I like to negotiate with companies but really fine to walk away to new pastures.

Most customers who stick around get worse rates imo.

That's excellent. We ought to review our utilities suppliers too.

We are very good about some things, we waited until Victoria Plum had a sale before buying our bathroom

fittings for instance and I buy loads of bedding in Debenhams blue cross sale so we can have the posh stuff e.g. £90 king size duvet for £27

I was wary. Made a note of all my direct debits etc. Bank account switched in 2 weeks as they promised, no issues at all.

Ah that's where I'm rubbish, I just buy when I see stuff I like or when I need it.

Utilities do have loads of secret discounts they give, so definitely worth asking

I'm on it! Well I will be just as soon as i get round to it .

Oh the other thing we do is if we want a couple of nights away check one of the discount hotel room sites, choose a hotel and ring them asking if they'll beat the price, some will or match it and throw in wine or dinner.

Maybe I'll do it in the New Year, I don't want too much of a shock to the system. I can't believe I sorted out the mobile phone and tablet costs and upgrades during my lunch break.

I've been trying to decide on what to do about a tablet for about six months. As I don't really know the difference between them all the 'free' one solves that issue.

I should look for one of those banks that give you money to be with them.

I've done that one and been surprised that they give me stuff for paying less to stay with them.

I do have a rule to only buy clothes and bedding in the sales.

I do this every 12 or so months & they just gave me a new customer deal - if any doubt tell them work hours being cut so you can't afford it anymore

I'm lazy. I hate trawling through insurance quotes and contract deals etc and often think if it aunt broke don't fix it.

Although after paying £125 for windscreen excess this year I think I'll do a bit of shopping for my car insurance when it comes up.

I tried that with talktalk this week but think I should try again as the girl came back wanting me to sign an 18 mths contract saving me only £5 per month ....grrrr, yet in a magazine this week I've seen my package for half of what im paying

I did it. I took that big step of switching my account for £100 for me and £100 for the person recommending me.

Never again. I've never had so much post and I now have enough leaflets to open my own branch.

Complain to the bank. Did you tick the 'no marketing crap' box? I had no junk mail due to my switch.
