The headline was "1 in 5 Brit Muslims' sympathy for jihadis."
Another front page story from today was "Charles: Climate change link to IS."
It's like the newspaper form of Britain First. |

"Did they quote a source for this stat? "
They commissioned one company to poll 1000 out of the 2.5 millions Muslims living in this country..
Headline a bit misleading me thinks, who'd have thought The Sun! |

"Did they quote a source for this stat? "
The source is a polling company called Survation.
Of course, there are key facts that The Sun avoided.
1) The survey didn't ask if people had sympathy for 'jihadis', it actually asked if people had support for young Muslims going to join fighting in Syria. Which could obviously mean either side.
2) The results of British non-Muslims polled were broadly the same - so The Sun could just have easily said 1 in 5 Britons support jihadis (even though that's not what the poll said)
3) Even if the poll was as The Sun interpreted it (which it isn't), you have to ask why they didn't say 4 out of 5 Muslims DON'T support 'jihadis'.
Basically a load of bollocks designed to fuel hatred against Muslims amongst Sun-reading idiots. |

Honestly think it's comparable to their vile reporting on Hillsborough and hopefully will provoke the same response.
To publish a headline like that, based on a survey that didn't even ask that question is inciting racial hatred. |

Looks like YouGov refused to do the survey, because The Sun wouldn't pay enough to ensure it was accurate: http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/nov/23/sun-poll-respondents-found-using-list-of-muslim-surnames |

I think Charles got things back to front..
I believe climate change will adversely affect the western hemisphere(planning ahead the next 50-100yrs?), possibly to a much colder one..I think destabilizing a few regions around saudi arabia(the untouched ones....), is an investment for the west.
Levelling cities/towns, displacing the indigenous and controlling the resources..all point to a vested interest in a rebirth.
Maybe its all science fiction... |

Anyone who thinks they're going to get real news or journalism from a paper like the Sun is just deluding themselves just as much as anyone who thinks they're going to get real news or journalism from a paper like The Mirror. It's just a matter of which bias you dislike most. |

Factually correct but it seems the Sun is 'read' by a lot of people.
Ergo, it is drivel but it is opinion forming drivel.
You can't just dismiss it |

I'm not dismissing it out of hand but, short of banning it, I'm not really sure what could be done.
I personally think that the level of comment and debate ( I use the word with reluctance) in the the so called Red Tops is one of the biggest threats to the whole democratic process but the only way I can think to combat it is to point out the truth and argue against the lies and misrepresentation. Unfortunately many only seem willing to do that when the misrepresentation doesn't support their own bias. |

So what are you going to do about it? If you think there is mistrust have being printed in the media biased to the left, rather than the right, go ahead and start speaking that truth.
Of course, the fact that the bias in the mainstream media of the UK is around 15% left wing and 85% right wing means that there is more bias that needs to be countered from the right than the left, so it will always seem to be disproportionally challenged. |

I disagree on the basis that there's free access to the BBC online whereas other newspapers need to charge something for their content. That means a lot of office workers browse the BBC at lunch. I really don't think you can make a case for the BBC being right wing! |

You can make a very good case for their news output being right wing, and in addition favouring the government position over balanced coverage. |

Lol, I don't think we're ever going to agree on that so let's not start the debate otherwise neither of us will get to bed on time tonight! |

I do when I spot it but it's always harder to spot bias that goes more along with your own bias in the first place. But at least I'm aware of that basis human fault. Are you? |

I think I've been able to educate many here about the perils of falling prey to confirmation bias - yourself included. |

I'll give credit where credit is due but on that point, for me, you get none. I've always questioned my own position and exposed myself to other trains of thought. It's the only way to understand those that oppose you. It's only when you understand your opponents that you stand any chance of being able stop them. Sometimes that can lead to a change of your own view. Personally I think you should try it. |

With respect, I think you fell prey to the 'base rate neglect' bias earlier in this thread |

A Comres poll showed yesterday that....
Labour are down on 27%
Conservatives on 42%
UKIP on 15%
LIB DEMS on 7%
Greens on 5%
So are Labour now more unpopular under Corbyn than they were under Red Ed Miliband with the general public? Despite what the grass roots Labour supporters think it's what the general public think in elections that matters. |

It's very poor marketing to put that 1 in 5 thing about Muslims on the front cover when 4 out of 5 shops selling it have Muslims behind the counter. If I was them I'd just return the shit back to the distributer.
Newspaper have had their day. |
