"Make a decision midweek."
That's what I would suggest too. Although as Bike Monkey says if it's still on lock down you might as well stay here and sit in your own front room rather than a Brussels hotel. |

If it's going to be a pain to get around and the restaurants and tourist attractions are likely to be shut, it would be a bit of a rubbish weekend. |

Sky news have said that its still in lock down at level 4 highest they've ever been and most attractions are closed and any event that is likely to attract attention/crowds cancelled but it will be reviewed again today |

Thing is, all this just properly kicked off yesterday. Situations change quickly.
No point making a decision now, but start looking at alternatives.
The main thing in Brussels is the Christmas markets which start a week later. See if you can postpone for a couple of weeks.

"Divert to Brugge or Ghent beautiful towns your gf will love them"
THIS
Both places would be great for a weekend and far more romantic (if that's what you wanted) than Brussels. |

North of The Wall - youll need your vest |
Have you already booked and paid for it? If so, see what the travel agent or FCO website say.
If you havent then why risk going and not being able to enjoy it when you can just decide to go somewhere else instead..... |

Belgium is and has been for years, very high on security watch lists.
NATO, European parliament, large Russian population, etc etc etc. |

I might be wrong, but I thought the Christmas markets started after next weekend, so you would miss them anyway |

you also need to check with your holiday insurance assuming you took that out!.
I got offered Morocco a couple weeks ago when my holiday was cancelled to sharm I checked the FO website which said high risk so called my insurance who told me I would NOT be covered should anything happen.

As it stands today I'd cancel.
My brother in law works in the centre of Brussels, most is closed off, all but important meetings cancelled, people are told to cancel nights out. It's absolutley chaos there at the moment.

If you want any info on Ghent let me know, but if its the Christmas markets you want then I'd suggest Antwerp, sadly Ghent's Christmas market isn't that good and there light festival which is fantastic wont have started yet.
But Antwerp's is lovely.

By the way Antwerp Christmas market is in the centre and all by the river I've been to Brussels and Antwerp markets and they are equally as good, but beware of selfie sticks but I honestly wouldn't go to Brussels, |

Belgium's a cool country/people but I dont think Id risk it at the mo. If you do go I can highly recommend Theatre Toone. Great bar with mainly Belgians and the beer in the test tube (sorry cant rem name!) was v quaffable. Marionette show upstairs. Watched Romeo and Juliet in Flemish I think.
Im not sure if Id risk Antwerp either because of the large Jewish community (sad that I have to think that way but these warped fuckers make you do it). Interesting music scene there too, dEUS being a fave. A very messy weekend with a club we entered through a trap door and wooden ladders??! |
