Now that the colder weather is here , it is decision time whether to lift my Dalhias for storage in a dry area or take a chance and hope that we do not have a prolonged period of first this winter.

I have in exces of two hundred in five different locations . Some have grown quite large over the years .

Originally I was going to leave them all in , but have now decided that as I would hate to lose the good quality ones to frost I will lift them.

Do you leave yours in or lift them for storage ?

I don't have such issues with my imitation Pampas Grass......

The only problem I have is the pink fairy lights keep sliding down the stems......

A discussion of dahlias? Never thought I would see that here?!

How about a mulch of straw held down with netting? By the spring most of it will be able to be dug in.....

Talking of pampas grass. I drove by a house the other day with 5 in their front garden. I did wonder what that many signified!

If you have enough free time, lift them. If they mean that much to you you can't leave it to chance. I lost a camellia to a stupid son in law who decimated my borders. Lesson learnt.

I take it the son in law has never been forgiven?!

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

I think with the winter`s we`re now having you`re more likely to lose them if it freezes after a wet spell as opposed to losing them due to a straight frost. In the past you would have already lost the foliage by now and they should already be stored upside down in their newspaper lined boxes! It was only the other day that the last of my begonias lost their flowers due to the heavy rain that just smashed them off! Crazy! Should have been long gone by now!

Lift the ones you'd really be upset to lose and leave the rest. 200 is an awful lot to dig up. I put all my geraniums and fuchsias in the greenhouse in the week to overwinter and that's as far as I'm going

Usually lift the ones I want to keep. Having said that, I did lose a few a couple of years ago when they were in storage but thankfully confined to the one storage tray
