"spending review cuts next week might mean private security companies will take over partroling uk streets"
I know this sounds like a daft question but would it honestly be cheaper in every sense of the word to use private security firms rather than the police force? |

This cannot be allowed to happen. Jumped up wannabe coppers on minimum wage working as a law to themselves. It will be a joke. |

Yes as security guards get minimum wage and training takes a few days . I can see patrolling an area looking for crimes does not need special training
Also it will be a fixed price that is easier to budget for and will leave the highly qualified police officers to continue with their harassment of innocent motorists

Where has this been said? Just curious because I know G4S are already used on a police force, but for back office roles, like the control room, they have not been patrolling the streets.
It will be the start of a very dangerous spiral for the police service if it happens. |

"Mrs. May's hubby is a major share holder in G4S so I guess it makes sense to the 2 of them. Wonder if they'll be armed? "
I was going to say the same -
Theresa May would stand to gain financially from such contracts, due to her husbands G4S ownership. Business as usual with the Conservatives - follow the money. No austerity for the Home Secretary's household.
I'm against this for the accountability issues it raises and prefer professional police to retain their roles and responsibilities. Private operations are too open to corruption without accountability. |

Well they figure that no one is objecting too much to the Tory Cabinet making a pot load from the NHS reorganisation/privatisation. No one stressed too much from them doing same with the prison service. No one stressed from the vast quantities of money they make from buying military kit or employing private contractors (or "Mercenaries", if you prefer) why would anyone draw a line at the police? |

Who do would hired law enforcement follow?
The government?
A set of regulations?
Their own morals and standards?
Or whoever is paying them?
Not much different from mercenaries really when you think about it. |

yeah because g4s do such bang up jobs in other places where they work, fair enough a lot of their workers can be good but overall the company itself and it's management can be piss poor.. |

"G4s did a great job of the Olympics not I think that's why I ended up in London for a while"
Erm G4S were WIDELY criticised when they admitted they didn't have enough staff to cover the commitments they'd agreed to during the Olympics. A multimillion pound contract that they were barely able to service and they had to rely on massive reinforcment from the Met.
Theresa May is a dangerous woman who should not be in the role she is, not least because of the conflict of interest (her husband's position within G4S). She will squeeze and squeeze the police budgets until there is an inevitable fuck up, and then she'll sit at home counting her piles of cash when G4S are awarded private contracts. |

I am not a fan of TM, however if you do some digging you will find her only link to G4S is that her husband owns some shares in the Prudential (non-controlling).
The Prudential own shares in G4S(non-controlling)...
So not quite the corruption that social media is shouting about...
I have no investments in G4S, Prudential or TM... |

I'm totally against it but 'all for' the cops to be back on the streets again preventing crime, - which surely has to be their most important role?
But when you say "......too open to corruption without accountability, " - this also has always been my opinion of the police! |

I used to work for G4S in police custody & G4S policing the streets will never happen - way too much risk over concerns with warranted officers - they already have contracts for prisoner transportation of arrested persons but that's as far as it will go - for G4S to actually be able to work within police custody was hard enough, let alone police the streets - PACE is ridiculously complex & the powers that be know its too much of a risk to public safety - not even PCSOs have the power to detain someone unless its for the safety of the public as they are classed as no confrontational officers - it will never happen |

The reason the games got tucked up was due to the fact that they didn't get enough money for it & had to employ zero hour contract - people did the training then said right come back in 3 months - yeah like people are going to sit around for months with no money - they went & got other jobs in the interim then didn't want to go back - the government had the marines were training for 3 months for the games prior to the announcement as they knew...G4S took the blame, oh & then got a new multi million pound contract straight after ...,go figure! |

So what's next st johns ambulance to run the NHS sponsored by Mc Donald's.
That's what we need a privately owned police force. Remember the London Olympics they admitted at the eleventh-hour they needed help.
Has this got any thing to do with the fact the Home Secretary's husband is a director of Group 4.

So piss poor management and an inability to do the job they were contracted to do. |

You read what the papers & government want you to read - it's political but G4S are renowned for having piss poor middle management, I'll give you that! |

Didn't they let several prisoners escape during transport prisons. Look at what a brilliant job the private security companies did of policing the Olympics, the army had to bail them out.
Saying that there will be jobs for the Syrian refugees that come over. |

Isn't that the description of the existing role o "community support officer"? |
