Implanon!

Not sure if there is already a thread concerning this so sorry if there is.

Is anyone else using this form of contraception? I'm very concerned regarding the news that 600 women have become pregnant whilst having these implants.

I was told by my GP that Implanon would be best for me as, if I used contaceptive pills I would have to use a double dose because of my weight and the depo injection could interfere with my anti-depressants.

The reason (apart from becoming a swinger) behind me using contraception after all the years i've been single was due to a pregnancy and ultimately a miscarriage last year. The last thing I need/want is another unwanted pregnancy!

i think if you look at the statistics that there have been many women that have got pregnant when using the pill and the injection and condoms (although not if they were using them all at the same time, that would be bloody unlucky )

just talk to your doc if you are realy worried. i have the implant as well as i am crap at remembering to take pills but am not overly worried about this. 600 out of the amount of people is probably a very low percentage

I did hear on the radio that anyone with any concerns should go back to their doctors or wherever it was you had it fitted

I would be doing that if I had it 600 pregnant women seems a huge amount but as I don't know how many have the implant its hard to say if its a small or large ratio

Well I have been on the depro for past 4 years but the last year was causing mood sings and weight gain. So came off it last August and still waitng to have my first period giving my body a rest and just using condoms at the mo and looking into other methods. I want to be sterilized but my doc wont do it because im not settled yet I am a single mum of two and dont want no more kids.

Originally on the pill but dont trust it as I fell pregnant both times with my girls. Thing is if your on other medication or ill it can knock it out

thanks all ...will definately have a word with my GP about it. I guess the media always blow everything out of proportion anyway but will just check it out for peace of mind

I wonder what the stats are for other contraception methods. I only heard this about Implanon briefly today so I didnt hear all the report. Ive got the coil and I know of a few women who've got pregnant whilst that was inserted.

Scotland - Aberdeen

I have the implant and have had it for nearly 3 years (needs renewing this year though)

Ok have been using condoms as well, but nothing is perfect, but I will admit was the best thing I did, no need to remember to take pills!! And I will be renewing it in a few months. If you decide to go ahead, just remember it will take your body approx 3 or 4 months to get used to it, I did have spotting every 2 weeks or so, but did settle down, last time I had a period is probably 6 months ago (but I know everyone is different), but I would say, give it a try, if you want any more info, feel free to PM me x

thats the thing with the media no a days, you dont know what they are trying to cover up.

obviously loads of women have chosen this contraception method as they dont want to get pregnant for various reasons, health, economic etc so cause a big panic about this to hide something else

up until my split with my ex i'd always used the pill...fell pregnant twice! my other daughter was planned though.

TBH i'm not that happy with this rod as I can constantly feel it under the skin but it was important for me to use some form of contraception. Never tried the coil myself but I have 2 friends who have used it and became pregnant. Nothing is 100% though. Celibacy is the only way lol

I only actually bled for two weeks afterwards. I suffered a silent miscarriage so had to actually wait for a bleed before they would implant it. No bleed since though....and no period pains either

Hi my girlfriend had a dvt 7 years ago while taking Marvalon, Doc suggested implant and although it was a tad uncomfortable at first shes now totally at ease with it and infact its the second replacement, shes never had any health issues with it nor unwanted pregnancy, it works very well and suits our lifestyles, the ratio of takers v pregnancies appears to be roughly the same as those taking "The Pill". Anyone had probs with implant?
