Sorry for moaning but this is like the internet version of shouting and screaming into the wind.

Anyone that knows me understands I love my job and Work very very long hours. If im asked to cover extra shifts no matter where or when if I can ill do it (even when it takes 2 hours to get there on the buses or means I'm away from home for up to 3 days in a row).

Today I made an exception, by arranging two weeks ago with the boss that I would have the day off. By the end of the week I'll have still worked over 70 hours anyway plus several nights).

It's not just a lazy day off, it's my sons birthday. He's 15 today, lives in boarding school in the lake district and is autistic, and was over the moon to know I'm going to visit him today.

The thing that's really annoyed me is I'm now having texts and calls saying they couldn't cover my shift and I should be there. Glad I've kept the messages so I can prove what was said so it shouldn't go to discipline but put a damper on what should be a fantastic day.

None of this is your fault, you arranged the time off with plenty of notice. Try and enjoy the day xx

It is a pain in the arse when companies try and take liberties like that. If you have arranged it all in advance, enjoy your day off and try and ignore them.

If you have an iPhone, go into the work contact entry and change their text/ring tone to silent - that way you will hear the important stuff but work will silently just build up without interrupting you. It might work on Android too, but I know **** all about Android.

Glad you had a good day.

They knew you wanted the day off, not your fault if they can't arrange suitable cover for this.
