I'm curious as to how many of us read the opening post in a thread and hit reply before reading the whole thing.
It's something I can be guilty of depending on the topic... not so much these days, I feel obliged toread everything now!
But I days gone by I feel that I want to answer the OP with my _iew before I read the whole thread so that I'm not considering other people's _iews as I make my own reply. I want the answer to come from my first thoughts on the topic.
Are you a read the OP then post or do you read all the replies and then post? Or is it a mixture depending on the topic?

Mixture of both.
Deleted by poster frequently suggests I've read the opening posts and commented before reading the whole thread.
If I'm repeating what someone has already said I'll delete, assuming I'm quick enough.
Harder on a long thread, but I try to read all posts to get the whole picture and consider all _iews first.

I usually read the whole thread before replying because very often the OP will amend their original meaning.
However, if it's just "what type of panties do you like" or "what are you doing today" I will post first.
I tend to read a whole thread on controversial issues because I don't want to misunderstand the meaning or intentions behind the OP. So reading their subsequent clarifications can be helpful.
I don't personally think my opinions or what I write is affected by other people's _iews unless they give me something to think about in a different way, which rarely happens because I'm pretty entrenched in my opinion
I'll usually say in my post if I hadn't read the entire thread so that I don't accidentally write something that could come off as bitchy about someone who has alreday posted.
If that makes sense

Being vacuous and full of my own self importance I tend to post without reading other contributions - as mine is the only comment worthy of note - surely?? |

I always try and read the thread before replying, its part of the fun of the forums, but I do tend to avoid threads that are longer than 60/70 replies long if I haven't already posted, life's too short for that! |

It varies depending on whether or not i am on my 30 minute dinner break at work (just write my own comment and don't read other comments) or if i have longer to read the whole thread |

I read the OP, the 1st few and the last few, then, if it makes sense, if I have anything to add I will; if it doesn't make sense, I'll read more to get an understanding of how the thread has got from the beginning to the end.
Kiss, Fuck, Avoid - straight to the last one. |

If I'm inclined to answer I will respond to op first, then read through the other replays answering each in turn, obviously pointing out how their wrong and I'm right, occasionally agreeing but that's very rare |

At the moment just thought trail usually goes like this.
Read title
Read first post
Scan read the majority of the posts
Type out my reply
Delete my reply
Think "I really can't be arsed getting involved in this bickering"
Which lets be honest, over the past week or two the majority of posts have been negative, argumentative, high horse riding, peacock showing its feathers sort of carry on. |

it depends on the topic, if it's a light hearted topic, I'll post my reply straight away but in a serious thread I will read the replys, not to change my answer but because (and I fully hold my hands up to this) sometimes I don't fully understand what the question is (which is why I stay away from the more serious news threads). |

It depends on what it is for me, if I want to join in normally I just read the OP and answer that. If the OP is not clear cut for me I might read down a bit more or ask a question first before I join in.
I then read the rest and sometimes change my mind after reading others posts if someone has written something I hadn't thought of |

"A very interesting point OP, I think you'll find the answer is baked beans. "
Yep, as long as the bean juice doesn't touch any other food items on the plate |

Depends on the OP and how many replies already posted. I hate scrolling through quotes and samey comments and, like you,I like to give my own opinion or answer before reading others. |

Do you still hit reply first or do you find yourself feeling obliged to read right to the end? |

I do it the opposite way now... I still hit reply with what I was gonna say and spit it out. Then I find myself going back through the thread to check I didn't miss anything for fear of the whole 'but she said blah and you didn't tell her off!' |

I usually read all. There's a few posters whose name I see and I know that they'll save me having to post since I normally agree with what their take on things is, but I often end up posting anyway. It may seem impossible but I really do lurk more than I post. |

If it's asking an opinion then i won't read the whole topic coz that might sway my opinion.
Advice topics i always read the whole thing to see if OP has replied again with more info and to see what other advice is offered. |

Depends on how lazy I'm feeling. I often start at the end and work my way back up. Sometimes I can guess who the poster was before I scroll up to see the name.
I like reading people's different _iews as I like that it makes me think differently. |
