Do women feel safer meeting with a white guy than meeting a black one???. And I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm mixed race myself. Just out of curiosity

so near and yet so far....

I think, if you are meeting a new person you have to observe all the safety rules, and think of yourself first, so colour doesn't come into it for me. As long as they are polite, and amusing everyone wins xx

the middle of the world

Wouldn't enter my head. If I felt safe enough to meet them, and followed my own safety rules, the colour of their skin wouldn't make any difference at all

Don't really think it has anything to do with colour or race tbh.

Meeting new people is always a gamble.

If people choose not to meet people of a different colour or race is more a personal preference than anything else.

Well I guess we're really lucky that we appear, for the most part, to have moved on from the prejudices from days of old. It's a shame that it's still going on in your country.

My considerations for meeting anyone are the same. I tell someone where I'm going and give as much detail about the other person as I know. My safety is important so I always meet in public places for a drink first. I guess I rely heavily on my own instincts. I don't care what colour you are, I want to know if you're an arsehole or not!

I think it's a good question to ask. And if I'm being really honest...if the black/mixed race guy was coming across all gangsta or too dom in his messages I would be worried. Whether I would be less worried if it was a white guy I don't know.

I genuinely feel ashamed feeling this way. But I think it has a lot to do with negative steriotyping of black American rappers. They seem to have no respect for women. Again I'm sorry I have this view as I don't feel I'm racist .

"I mean I don't know how I should apologise. It was a dumb questions I admit but if my apologies don't mean anything..."

It's not dumb. You're asking because of experiences you have had in your life. You wanted to know. I'm not a black man,so I haven't had the same experiences as you. We can all pretend that prejudice, racial profiling and stereotyping doesn't happen in this day and age,but it does.

When I was a teenager, television often portrayed the bad guys as black, skinheads, cockney geezers, tattooed men. So,I was scared of people like that. As I grew up I realised that not all tattooed skinheads were knife wielding thugs, and the black man walking towards me wasn't going to mug me for my bag.

I've met men of all colours and races from here; if I didn't feel safe I wouldn't have met them.

"Do women feel safer meeting with a white guy than meeting a black one???. And I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm mixed race myself. Just out of curiosity "

Oh dear, I do hate political correctness, it's almost as bad as racism sometimes!!

The answer to your question depends totally on context, and to some extent location. If I get on well with a mannerly black guy from a decent area I may well meet him, I have done so. If someone from one of the rough areas of London messages me and says 'Yo bitch, suck on this twelve incher...' I am highly unlikely to even reply, whether he is black, white or green lol!!

Black men are often stereotyped as 'BBC' but then many of them use this themselves as a selling point, so that will perpetuate.

It was a stupid question for the following reason.

If someone says "yes, I'm more afraid to meet black guys than white guys". The very next question is WHY??? And there is nothing you can say that will not sound racist.

The question should have been along the lines of "who are you more comfortable meeting or who do you prefer to meet...." Or if the OP had given the context that he added later it might have added some depth to the discussion.

I'm my opinion.....

OP, I'm from New York City and I completely understand your question. Please don't pay attention to the criticism on this thread. As has been pointed out, it is a cultural difference. I think sometimes people just aassume eveyone posting is from the UK.

I'm from Brooklyn and I have never felt unsafe around black men in particular. I think there is as much a difference between the NYC and Dallas as there is between UK and Dallas, sometimes.

But I know people in NY who would answer your question with a yes. I also know people here who, if you switch out the word black with Asian, would answer yes.

To tell you a little about those rappers. The media is only going to show you maybe 10% of the reality. And I do agree that those rappers disrespect women. But they do it because most women they're talking about don't respect themselves. But that topic is very deep even to discuss. Because we have to see where did it all start. How did black people go from making music about love and unity in the 70s and 80s to drugs and murder. Well in the 80s is when crack cocaine came to black neighbourhood. Most of black men started going to prison and just losing their mind. So now you got these kids growing up without a father figure and high chance that the mother is on drugs. To make things worst the jusicial system is not really fair in the states. So all the younger ones grew up with a lot of anger and hate because they didn't have nobody to teach them the right way. But I'm going to stop for now. If you would like to know more just pm me and we can chat about it.
