I'm getting my wisdom tooth removed tomorrow after it was infected twice this year.
Twice they tried to refer me to the hospital and each time I've chickened out. So last week I had a check-up and she suggested she could take it out there and then?! Obviously I wasn't ready and said I'd make an appointment for it so I feel more ready for it(not going to back out this time)
I don't understand why they suggested to refer me to the hospital and then they reckoned they could take it out themselves.
Anyway....with anyone who has their wisdom tooth/teeth taken out how long did it take the mouth heal? And do you have any tips for it to heal or be any less painful?
Thanks, shitting myself here |

Mine kept getting infected so got them taken out and never had any problems. If it's sticking out from the gum it takes about 10 minutes under local. You're all numb so you don't feel anything and it didn't hurt that much afterwards.
Once you've had it done, you'll wonder why you worried about it.
Good luck and go for it. |

It's not the nicest of things to have done but, it's way better than repeated infections!
For the sake of a couple of days of discomfort, get in that chair & let them pull it.
Loads of people dislike the dentists, myself included but, removing the bad tooth is by far the best way to go.
By the way, if you're a smoker, leave off the fags afterwards until the gum heals. A "dry socket" absolutely kills! Way more than "normal" toothache.
Good luck. |

Had one out this year did not feel a thing was awake throughout. Not going to lie the sensation was not pleasant when it was being done so prepare yourself for a little pushing and pulling in the mouth.
I was paranoid around getting a dry socket so make sure you follow the instructions and if you smoke or drink from a straw or bottle don't bother as the sucking sensation can dislodge the clot.
They will give you gauze and a little trick if you have some bleeding is to soak a teabag under the tap and then gently bite down on it to help the blood clot.
Good luck it's not bad at all. |

I had a tooth put 2 years ago, worst bit for me was the injection to numb my mouth and the dribbling after because of the numb mouth. Just keep swilling salt water 2/3 times a day and it will heal in no time. If you find the ache is making it hard to sleep try some night nurse, I know it's more of a thing to take when you have a cold but it knocked me out for 10 hours and I felt so much better after.
I need another tooth out but keep putting it off because I'm too scared :/ |

Ive had two wisdom teeth out and once pulled had very little problems. Its always the same after something done in mouth. Feels odd for a few days.
Good luck and you will feel a lot better once its done, the stress before hand is way worse than getting the tooth out. |

I got all four out at once under general anaesthetic when I was in my 20's. I went to hospital cause there's no danger I could have done that while I was awake.
Good luck! It wasn't pleasant but it was necessary. Get it over and done with. |

"That's one thing I'm worried about is the "dry socket" But luckily I don't smoke. x"
The tip about rinsing your mouth with salt water earlier is the best thing to prevent this.
Don't stress about it, it'll be done before you know it. |

If you are shitting yourself.. why the hell did you back out of the hospital.. when you could get them to sedate you - or even put you under. You eeejit!!
I would suggest going to your doc and getting a script for a couple of valium, explain its for an extraction, and you could have taken one tonight and one before you go to dentist, which would have helped you to relax. a lot. lol
Bit late for that now.. so all I can suggest, is - take a fully charged mp3 player to listen to. Make sure he numbs it with more than he would normally use, and give it plenty of time to work. And ask the assistant to hold your hand. (seriously).
And get that fucker over and done with. Then its done.
You can do it woman - stop being a fanny about it! (ok, easy for me to say )
Good luck!! |

"My wisdom tooth isn't all the way through the gum yet either, it's just "poking" through. ahhhhhhhhh deep breath..... "
You should be fine. I had 2 out in the dentist chair, but they gave me a valium injection and anaesthetic injection, didn't know anything about it and no problems afterwards. |

Ive had two wisdom teeth out it wasn't so bad to be honest. The second one that it the first was horrid!
One thing I would say take ear plugs and put music on whilst they do it.
The noise whilst they did it made me get upset to the point of panic. The second came out weeks later and it was suggested I listened to music and it worked a treat. |

I was just slightly sedated. My friend had 1 out in hospital, and they put her under and the recovery took longer than mine. You really won't know much about it! |

Had mine out in the dentists.
Cant remember much. Passed out, came to and he had his knee on my chest trying to prise it out. Eventually he did manage it. But I can honestly say..either achoice of, out in hospital under sedation, or a dentists chair with just a local. TAKE THE HOSPITAL!!!
As for afterwards, felt like I had been kicked in the mouth by a horse for about a week.
