The MK2 Renault Megane was an utter munter of a car... What were they thinking with that rear end?
On the flip side, has anyone seen the new Alfa Giulia QV?
Oh my word it's stunning (Ferrari twin turbo V6 under the bonnet too). |

No, it's Fiat owned. Built by Alfa Romeo in conjunction with Ferrari.
As an aside the number of cars on the road that are using the Fiat/Alfa engines (Vauxhall, Saab to name just two) is ridiculous. |

To be fair, I did look after your post and it's a very nice car! I'd never buy one mainly because I'd lose my licence in a week. And I always liked moto |

You're thinking of the post 2006 3.2 V6. The pre 2006 (known as the Busso) is the best V6 engine ever made. The Vauxhall unit, although based on it, is good but doesn't have the same character.
The 4-cylinder engines are all Fiat/Alfa. All modern cars with direct injection have Alfa to thank and are using their basic design and most flappy paddle gearboxes are based on the Alfa Selespeed system, intact the system in all Ferrari's IS the Alfa Selespeed. |

They didn't make a 3.5 you're thinking of the 3.2.
They're pretty rare and a lot of people hang on to them now because you get a whole lot of car for very little money.
If you have Facebook search for the group 'Alfabook'... We'll find you one. |

They never built a 3.5, there's a company called Autodelta that will bore the 3.2 out to 3.5 or even 3.8 though. They'll even fit a supercharger!
As for hunting down the 166. Search out either Italia-Autoparts (speak to Neil) or Autolusso (speak to Ned). If anyone can track you one down its them. |

Yep,Nissan Juke is an ugly, largely pointless car. The BMW X6 is just pointless, full stop.
But can any car top the Ssangyong Rexton (Lego-brick body version) for brutish ugliness?

Yes! My dad used to drive a Delta - beautiful car, handled so well. We lived by the sea, though, and they loved nothing better than to rust in the best of conditions,so,it's now a pile of browny-orange flakes somewhere. |

I had a Lancia Beta coupe, less said the better- and a Lancia Dedra works car that was a rocket ship but fell apart from new. The upholstery was like draylon velvet and the petrol tank leaked into the rear of the car and made me feel sick.

Unfortunatley i do remember them as my dad had one. I hated going in it.
The Austin Princess was also very ugly, just looked like a door wedge from the side view. |

I take exception to your comments sir. We had an antique gold (official name), Austin allegro. We actually owned the car for a good many years and not once did it let us down. It always started first time no matter what the weather or how long it had been left standing and ut was also pretty nifty down the motorway xxx |

Antique Gold, is that another shade of crap colour? Complete opposite story with the one my dad had, bits of the interior would just randomly fall apart, build quality was awful, sunroof leaked in, top speed was probably 70mph down a steep hill with a strong wind behind it. |

I'm currently on my 5th Alfa. I have the bug...
Lost count how many I've had . All started with a Alfa sud back in the day . Would have another one tomorrow . Best balanced car I have ever driven , and that's comin from someone that has a Lancia delta integrale in the garage . Never had one that has left me stranded at the side of the road ether . Have driven them to the south of Italy many times without any problems . Currently driving a 159 ti . Love it . Best looking saloon on the road today ( biased I know ) think you might think I have the bug to ....... I have , since about 1987 !!
MMMM I drive a 159 ti too, in black - best-looking version of the best-looking car on the road (new Giulia included, from what I've seen so far). What engine does your have? mine's the 1750 tbi
Mines a 2.4 jtd in red had it all remapped , goes like stink "
Mines a GT Blackline 1.9 JTDm.
Remapped to 210bhp and almost 400lbs of torque. No EGR valve or swirl flaps. Solid mass flywheel conversion, Kevlar clutch, bigger 19-row oil cooler and 330mm Brembo brake conversion. Goes like a bat outa hell and still gives me over 50mpg.
Next up is coilovers, Eibach anti-roll bar, poly-bushes all round, a hybrid turbo, bigger injectors, exhaust with downpipes and reworked oil breather system with scavenger to keep oil vapour away from the turbo and induction pipework. |

All 4x4s except the defender are dog ugly.
Most Japanese/ Korean are not ugly but charmless.
Citroens seem to be either very nice or very ugly with no middle ground whereas as Ford's seem to be all middle ground with no ugly or pretty ones.
Personally I've always liked 70s classics so maybe my taste is weird but ive got this thing for a 75/76 Citroen ds safari |

"The MK2 Renault Megane was an utter munter of a car... What were they thinking with that rear end?
On the flip side, has anyone seen the new Alfa Giulia QV?
Oh my word it's stunning (Ferrari twin turbo V6 under the bonnet too).
agree there, Italian, what more is there to say.
I'm somewhat biased...
Me too and not wishing to turn the forum into top gear, nr on all the best looking cars for the past 50 yrs have been Italian, ( but I do also have a passion for 50's 60's and 70's Americana.

I still lust after a good Sud, but now I have the Delta happy. After a boozy lunch a while ago with a friend who had a sud, he said his then gf had a Peugeot 205 gti 1.9 a much better car, via Ebay 1 hour later I had bought one for £2000, un seen. It was fantastic and scary, had it for two yrs and sold it in an attempt to hang on to my licence. |

Wasn't the worst but my first car was a Hillman Avenger, 2 tone blue(but only cos some of the panels were from another car)..think I paid about £50 for it in 1987. Later went on to sell for more than that, and off it went banger racing. . It died ,I watched it

There's a few good Sud's about .I have a friend who's just done a full bare metal restoration on one. Absolutely stunning car.
I still don't fancy changing the front brakes though... |

Hi, on a serious note, I cant contact you directly, but I have been on the hunt in the past for a face lift 166 3.5 if you know of one, would have to be the best though."
The 166 was a missed opportunity for Alfa. I love them. |

The facelift model was particularly lovely and a great car to boot.
The pre-facelift cars were an acquired taste in the looks department.
They are great cars but the crap reputation Alfa gained in the late 70's hasn't shifted even though they're on par, reliability wise, with most German marques (often better) nowadays. |

Arrrrr !!! Those front break pads !! You need three hands to change them and then your going to lose most of the skin on your arms . If I remember correctly the good old Haynes manual told you to take the engine and gearbox out to change them . I had 4 suds , last one being the green clover leaf , had a sprint also , so had plenty of prattice changing front break pads |

Inboard brakes are fantastic for handling but a pain in the arse for changing. At least with the engine out you can change the belts with ease on that glorious Boxer engine.
I'd love a 1970's GTA... |

Alfa's hey , they really get under your skin , in a good way I might add . There is not much to chose from at the moment though so I will stick with my 159 . Won't be buying a diesel again though , love the power and the torque it has but to many things to go wrong , when they do its not cheap plus I don't understand them like a petrol engine . |

Answer, its a very long book about a very troubled time, when sadly we had the real talent and passion to design and build really good cars.
Anyway look at our F1 and top end performance car industry in the UK now, not bad, even if a lot of it doesn't turn a profit. |

The Brera is a great car let down by things like the GM (M32) gearbox and crap lower wishbone bushes. A few tweeks, like fitting polyurethane bushes, transforms the dynamics. The best solution for the gearbox is to fit the F40 from the 2.4. |
