And then we had a reasonably long digression on what the office of the President of the United State of America is all about, and elections, and who Barak Obama is.

At one point I did find an infographic of all 18 contenders from both parties for the White House in 2016.

I said to her, look carefully at these pictures, for it unmasks something *very* important about the nature of politics.

"I don;t know," she says.

Look again.

There's 18 people there. 2 are women, one is black and the rest are all old white men.

other than trump, who finances himself (having 10 billion will give you enough to do that!) ben carson (republican) and Bernie Sanders (democrats) who are predominantly grass roots/social media funded... all of the others, clinton of the dem side... and the gaggle of republicans all are back by one or two with very deep pockets....

To be fair thought the country is majority white.

So an even distribution would be old white people although admittedly more women.

But most women do not choose to enter STEM or politics really.

Not by force or patriarchy or anything but the choices they make.

he or carson will win iowa.....

Right now the country is getting pretty tired of the mainstream politician. A person has to be so freaking wealthy to run for the office, we don't think they're going to get anyone worth a crap. He just happens to have the money to be able to run. His chances of winning I would say are pretty good.

people always mention reagan when they talk about trump.... people forget that Reagan was a republican govenor of a liberal state of California before he ran.. so he was never as far to the right when he governed cali as when he was president....

the closest person to that type of republican in this race is probably chris christie... who is the republican governor of a liberal state (new jersey)

unfortunately a reagan type republican wouldn't win the republican nomination these days......

i still haven't decided.... actually the three left, clinton, sanders and o'malley all have impressed me in one way or another....

it is just such a stark contrast in how the republican and democratic nomination process is taking places.... the republican side has been about shooting down each other, and the media.... the democratic side has been much much more about policy and what comes next after obama...

did you see the democratic forum on friday night with rachel maddow..... it is about as impressed i have been with a debate type thing i have been in a long long time.....

No, I didn't see it. I avoid Rachel Maddow like the plague, to be honest. But I guess I'll have to go back and watch it now.

I have been a Bernie fan since I was a child. He has impressed me. I like his stand against big money in politics. I like his arguments against unregulated capitalism and I like what he has to say about income inequality. He is more genuine and believable than Hillary, and I respect him. Unless he fucks up in a big way, he's got my vote.

And the difference between the republican and democratic races has been the same as always. It's just more evident now because of the circus the republicans have made of their own party. In my opinion.

That's an interesting concept however... Wouldn't a shrewd businessman want a return on his investment... You put a billion in to get 2 billion back...I haven't a problem with that philosophy except that history shows they tend to just rob the extra billon of well... Poorer people!

I'm biased but all the polls also showed that Bernie won it.

What you mean like Ross Perot in 92 allowing slick Willy to sneak past bush .

The trouble with that was, perot was actually the only candidate against the NAFTA trade deal, a deal that arguably killed more middle class well payed jobs than anything else

"I'm sure they say much the same about Jeremy Corbyn"

So we all know where you stand politically then

Corbyn is a politician whether you like his policies or not. Personally I find his position somewhat refreshing, a change from the centre right politics we have inflicted on ourselves.

Trump is not a politician, but is a character that does not (in my opinion) earn any respect.

If you want to compare Trump with a UK politician may I suggest Farage is a better comparison?
