"Post hoc ergo propter hoc

It means "after this therefore because of this" which might be true in this case, but doesn't quite explain why, really.

The literal translation means exactly the opposite. It is the logical fallacy you are referring to then...that makes more sense.

Some veg are much more fibrous than others and can make you gassy etc like parsnips and sprouts but ive never encountered it with chinese food only if it's been overloaded with chillis

quite less likely than the meat being off or contaminating your cooked food with uncooked meat.

Veg generally don't give you issues unless they are off or you have many chillies and you are not used to them.

Given that you have ruled basically everything out other than magic then it was either a wizard or you did something you didn't realise to contaminate your food.

Okay I know it's breakfast time but did you have stomach cramps followed by the shits pretty soon after eating?

Or did it come on a lot later?

It's only used as the fallacious argument. In current times you would expect it to be followed by a rolling-eyes smiley or a sarcastic lilt of the voice

Might have been too much oil when cooking. Excuse the crudity, but I think I know where you're coming from on this. Used to have the same after effects from pizza and boy was it bad. (And I mean,oil/grease etc from pizza toppings rather than deep-frying the pizza: that'd just be silly)

What do you think are in Chinese veg? Most of it is grown in the same African and European fields as the rest of your veg. Trust me eating clean properly prepared veg will not give you the shits,

Same effects from Orlistat which is a drug which prevents the body from absorbing a percentage of the fat you consume. Devastating after effects lol.

It will be the bean sprouts, there was something on the box about them the other day, but basically they hold loads of bacteria, as much as shell fish and raw meat

You might have both picked up a bug and its coincidence or it could be that you used an unfamiliar spice. Ginger can affect some people so can chilli some ground spices can irritate your intestines if they aren't cooked long enough too.

I've had trouble with beansprouts before. Bought them supposedly fresh, and used them a couple of days later. Everyone else was fine, but I definitely wasn't. I'd say beansprouts are the number 1 suspect.

I doubt its the case here but suddenly eating a lot of Jerusalem artichokes or other vegetables rich in inulin can cause these symptoms.

It's a difficult job trying to balance out cooking them thoroughly to kill bacteria and leaving enough crunch to then. I tend to keep clear of them now. I do a mean vegetable and egg fried rice though.

Vegetables out of a tin, for stir fry? I'd start with that, as sounds iffy. Unless it was sweetcorn?

Maybe you over faced yourselves rather than actually poisoning yourselves and the veg didn't help, if it's not some thing you regularly eat. Hopefully it doesn't perturb you in the future.
