I thought they stopped selling them decades ago

I bought a Sony Betamax for £450 back in 1984, luckily I have since transferred all ma '70's & '80's porn to vhs and now to disc

No they didn't

Sony developed the format into Betacam, then Beta SP, then finally into Digibeta- all of which were broadcast grade formats, where as Betamax was the consumer format (and far superior to VHS).
