They are helpful in establishing if a person is genuine but usually just turn into posts to piss on.

They're useful if your prospective meets demand you're verified before they'll even consider you!

For me it's an indication they're who they say they are, genuine and what they're like.

I do laugh at what I call the 'self veris' ie those that show off what the verifier has to offer rather than the verifiee ... Eg "she was soon panting and moaning and I had her squirting everywhere as I fucked her hard and fast with my huge cock for the 6th time..."
