Earths' climate is moving into uncharted territory and global temperatures are set to rise more than one degree above pre-industrial levels according to the UK's Met Office.
Figures from January to September this year are already 1.02C above the average between 1850 and 1900.
If temperatures remain as predicted, 2015 will be the first year to breach this key threshold. If higher temperatures in the extreme, we will start to see sea rise, dangerous to wild life and deseases amongst other things.
Is it just me or have you also notice after the tsunami we have seen a change in weather to like colder winters? |

Past 2 winters i felt it was warmer and not as harsh. Although a few years ago we had a couple of really bad winters here where everywhere was covered in ice and cars couldn't go anywhere coz it was too icy.
Idk what i'm talking about when it comes to climate. |

I lived in NY my whole life and I've noticed changes. This past winter they had multiple snow storms of over 6ft. When I went back in September it was over 100 degrees farenheight when it's usually 60.
The world is going to be a crazy place soon.

Hmmm toast.
I don't remember the food situation, just remember trying to take my kids to school and sliding all over the place. Think the year after we just didn't take them in. |

Anything that comes from the UK met Office is usually wrong so I wont worry too much about it.
They say BBQ summer, buy a raincoat.
They say mild winter, buy ski's and de-icer.

We're blessed with comparatively mild weather in the UK - as much as we go on about it it's not extreme in the slightest.
No, for the Uk it's not a huge problem. We all get to joke about growing grapes or wearing fewer clothes in the winter.
BUT
For the browner peoples of the Earth is't potentially massive:
* A World Bank report says that 62 million more people in South Asia could fall into extreme poverty by 2030 as a result of lower crop yields and higher food prices, and the health impacts of climate change
* We have seen a strong El Nino develop in the Tropical Pacific this year and that will have had some impact on this year's global temperature," said Stephen Belcher, director of the Met Office Hadley Centre.
* oh, and a rise in seas completely fucks most of the Pacific island nations.
But you know, we get to grow grapes

I'm still partially involved in the research that's going on around this problem (and there's an awful lot of research going on - more than most people realise!)
Some warming is happening naturally, which the planet can cope with and adjust to.
But we are artificially accelerating that warming, to levels that must cause other effects...
In short....
Some sea level rise is guaranteed - not good for London and the South coast, which are sinking, but not a problem for Scotland, which is rising!
If we accelerate warming a little, then the UK will be warmer, loosing it's coastline under further rising seas, and getting a lot more rain.
If we accelerate warming a lot, then ice melt will change the salinity of the Atlantic, the Gulf stream will shut off, and Europe could very rapidly (within our lifetime) plunge into long-term sub-arctic conditions or worse...
It is all a bit more complicated than that, but that's where we're going!
Looks like we're going to be one of the short-lived species...

Well at least the beach will be closer.........
Seeing that the Chinese are now wandering round some cities in gasmasks because of the air quality. Let's hope the campaigners cast theirs eyes in that direction. |

Hello all,
a very timely news release as the next climate change conference is due to be held in Paris this month.
As always lot's of dire forecasts, but if you look back to other forecasts of the last thirty years, none have come anywhere near. Nobody mentions the Antarctic ice being at a 30 year high (Nasa report).
All to part us from even more money for schemes that rarely work effectively. By the way the earth is now a lot greener than twenty years ago so the plants like it, so predictions of less crop yield seems contrary.

"isn't the climate change in 250 years time i know i won't be around then and when the ice melts i don't think sweden will there also" That is right and not much will be left in the world after the ice melts in few hundreds years time.

The planet has been much much warmer, and much much colder (look at the last 11,000 years since the last glacial period).
Also, Eastern Antarctic pack ice is forming at a greater rate than Western Antarctic pack ice is melting, giving a net reduction in sea levels.
The science of AGW is well dodgy and populated by many charlatans. It is definitely not settled, and continually stating that it is, does not change that fact, nor does name calling of those who attempt to analyse the data objectively. |

You just need patience. |

The springboard effect on England and Scotland has more to do with geology than the current rate of climate change.
During the last ice age (20 odd thousand years ago) the weight of the ice literally pressed the land downwards. Since the ice sheets retreated the land mass has slowly recovered (and is still doing so)
On Britain's land mass the rise of Scotland is pushing England downwards a bit like a see-saw. |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
So arctic ice reducing, antarctic ice increasing.
Sea levels rising, and falling, and some land is springing back.
Ice age still ending. No weather records for previous "end of ice age" period.
Science making dire predictions based on a lot of guesswork, religion making dire predictions based on the opinion that science's dire predictions should be topped.

Hello Alec!
I'd like to point some stuff out to you!
Firstly you say nobody mentions the Antarctic gaining ice!...
Let's look at that
1 it's a NASA report, it's completely open to public viewing!
2 your being slightly disingenuous with the claim that Antarctic ice is gaining, the report actually said Antarctica "sea" ice is gaining alot where as Antarctica "land" ice is reducing, admittedly the sea ice is gaining at a greater rate than the land ice reduction however the report also says the total gain does not offset the huge Arctic losses, and the gain of ice at the Antarctic has not stopped the sea level rising.
Now if you like and belive your NASA studies like you clearly do as your stating it here... Why don't you go and read the other hundreds or reports they've made showing man made climate change effects! |

The sea level has risen not fallen,
The earth has been hotter and colder through natural climate change, we know that through err climate change scientists and their experiments and data, we also know that homosapians have never expedienced those climate changes because we weren't around then!...
Climate changes naturally, we all know that, we also know that 90%of every species that ever existed is now extinct and that happened alot through err climate change!!
Now seen as we know that and seen as we know that spewing c02 and methane into the atmosphere will warm the earth faster than the natural effect....
Surely the answer is to stop doing it! |

In other NASA news.
Hansen Study: Climate Sensitivity Is High, Burning All Fossil Fuels Would Make Most Of Planet 'Uninhabitable'
James Hansen, the country's most prescient climatologist, is out with another must-read paper, "Climate sensitivity, sea level and atmospheric carbon dioxide." The paper, co-authored by a number of Hansen's former colleagues at NASA, is an antidote to the rosy scenarios the mainstream media have recently been pushing. The key findings are The Earth's actual sensitivity to a doubling of CO2 levels from preindustrial levels (to 550 ppm) - including slow feedbacks - is likely to be larger than 3-4°C (5.4-7.2°F). Given that we are headed towards a tripling (820 ppm) or quadrupling (1100 ppm) of atmospheric CO2 levels, inaction is untenable. |
