Well I love a daft newspaper headline the answer is yes of course.
Apparanetly based on a study of men in London...I wasn't asked
I'm not afraid to have a bit of a teary moment when called for, I'm usually hard as nails obviously the rest of the time but I don't think it really matters, not really sure I can do much with my emotions to suit how its perceived by others.
How about you?
I'm off to hug a tree then eat some raw meat |

with one of the biggest causes of death being suicide amongst young men maybe we should as a society start to address the total crock that is some males suppressing their emotions..
will shed tears as and when it happens, its a natural emotion..

If a mans grasp on his masculinity is so tenuous that being seen crying may cause him to lose it, then he's clearly not much of a man.
True strength isn't about how much it takes to hurt you, but rather carrying on despite being hurt. |

Sometimes (a lot of the times) newspapers print the most stupid things
Nothing wrong with a man crying; doesn't make him less of a man; it makes him human. I'd rather have him than a 'macho' man who is probably at breaking point but dare not show such an emotion |

I cry from time to time. I find it's a great emotional release. You can feel so much better afterwards. I don't worry about how it may be perceived. If you feel you have to cry then go for it. I imagine the worst thing you could do, would be to surpress it. |

I agree, there is a societal stigma attached which gladly I don't give a damn about
If I do end up having a cry in the street as has happened previously, then I do. I've let out a few tears at concerts too which come from just the moment or rather the moment triggering other thoughts/feelings. Better out than in as the saying goes.
Though I'm not a young man anymore. The point about young men not feeling able to express themselves is spot on
A stupid article, which may have been meant to read ironically/sarcastically but the writer needs some work on those facets if so. |

Real men do cry and so they bloody well should to maintain a healthy emotional balance
The stiff upper lip men don't cry attitude is silly coz we are by the mere fact we are human emotional beings
Yes seeing a man cry can be a shock but having recently lost a lovely friend and seeing the beautiful out pouring of love and emotion by her best male friend and being able to hold and comfort him I say bring on the tears boys |

Admittedly I cry very rarely as I don't encounter many times that make me very sad or that kind of bizarre happiness like fatherhood or pride in a child (I've no children).
I see it as security and strength to be comfortable displaying emotions of any kind really. Though I have worked with some people who are very emotional and that isn't often a good thing. |

If I say anyone crying I tend to follow suit quite quickly..
Once, at school a girl I had a crush on was getting told off pretty severely by a teacher... Tears actually trickled down my cheek mid lesson...fortunately nobody realised |

We all have emotions, and sometimes it's good to let ours out.
ANY man that says he doesn't cry and holds it all in is full of bullshit!
I have shed a tear or 50 today, after being sent a link on FB of a young girl with cancer, watching her ring the bell at the end got me going, something I wish everyone could do.

"I had to make the decision and take my 17 year old Labrador to be put to sleep last week. Was the worst day of my life and I haven't stopped crying since."
I am sorry for you and your Labrador; I understand what you are feeling; but think of all the wonderful years the two of you spent together; xxx
After 5 years, I still feel like crying whenever I think about the time that I had my cat put to sleep. He only 2 or 3 hours left to live and was in so much pain. Whatever could be done, had been done and the vet kept on insisting that this was the best for him
I know he would not have lived for long and that he was in extreme pain. But I still don't know if I made the right decision by taking the last few hours of his life away. I wish I could have asked him what he wanted to happen
The next morning, at work, I just burst into tears at my desk. I had to run to the restroom to hide as I could not afford for my team to see me crying |

It was a disappointing take on men. Too many guys have been pressured to not feel, let alone express, their emotions.
Male suicides are high. Guys, look after yourselves and don't cave in to pressure to conform. |

I am going to break the mould here...I can't remember crying since I was a kid. Not at films or funerals...as a second generation military engineer I tend to intellectualise my emotions. I can switch them on and off as needed. Its just how I am wired up. I don't see anything wrong with crying, I just don't do it. I'm not some macho alpha male and bottling anything up- its not there to start with. |

Of course men should and do cry. We all have emotions and it's good for ourselves and others that we show them and let them out when necessary.
However I think we all need to make sure that we don't allow are emotions to totally dictate our lives. To be human is to in control of yourself and your emotions, to express your emotions but still be able to make rational judgments. I personally do not believe that allowing your emotions to control your life is any better than not showing any emotions at all. |

Paul was brought up by a dad who doesn't cry and therefore doesn't feel comfortable crying. I've seen him cry only a handful of times
When his gran died
When we almost split up
When he saw me walk down the isle to him on our wedding day
When we recently had some bad news about our dogs health
When we met he wasn't open about feelings etc but now he is and I see his stiff upper lip start to soften more often

Absolutely. And that would apply to both; men and women. And not just when one is feeling sad or unhappy; but negative emotions like anger especially need to be controlled
By the way, love the new look. A considerable improvement

Oh definitely - for women too. People who cry all the bloody time over every little thing are in many ways as bad as those who never do. And I don't like crying being used as a badge of how much someone cares or feels - I don't cry that much and rarely do at funerals, for example. Never at weddings. And have been called a cold bitch for that before |

This is all a load of feminist crap to further emasculate the men in this country
Feminists only say that men shoild cry to take the spotlight of them and their emotionally mental behaviour once a month
Men don't cry there is nothing wrong with being strong enough to take all the worries and showing the wife and kids that everything is ok and they ahould not be worried
There is nothing wrong with men beings manly just like their is nothing wrong with women being womanly.
What do you suggest men cry about And when
Shall we have a monthly cry and when you get a group of men together like in the army . Do they synchronise their crying .

Men do cry. Some cry because their football team lost or they have just seen their baby born. Some cry over sad films or music that invokes a memory. Men hide it because other men tell them they aren't a man if they cry. |

Not "should" but "may" or "can", without feeling that they have let someone down
My ideal man is a masculine guy, not a macho guy. In my experience, macho guys are out to prove something which is mostly arising out of their insecurities
Not crying doesn't make any man 'strong'; pity if someone's idea of 'strong' hinges on something as trivial as that |

To me it's about being aware of the emotion & dealing with it than actually physically showing it.

No, that's not quite what I meant.
'Keeping it together' is fine as sometimes that is what is needed, however the person who is always 'keeping it together' needs to be aware that they are not continually surpressing their own emotions because that is what is expected of them.....
There's nothing wrong with having someone to help you 'sort your shit out' it's not a reliance or a weakness & shouldn't be seen that way.

Theirs nothing wrong with it if that's just what you do naturally. However if you feel that's the way it should be because your man that's wrong. Also expecting other men to handle it and not cry cause they are men is wrong.
My hubs never cries that's just him but I know if things really got to him he would if that's what he needed.

Not all men have it in them to handle everything life throws at them . Just like not all men are fit or have blonde Hair
And like you say , things are bad when hubby cries
yoyr hubby is there to let you and the kids know to not worry it will be fine
If he starts crying as well you know your in trouble hence why men don't cry |

I'm a man.
I have feelings.
Sometimes I cry.
I don't see it as a sign of weekness. It's a natural release of emotion.
There is huge amounts of research being carried out at the moment around connections between suppressed emotion and major illness like cancer.

I saw your post about your dad and how that made you feel when he cried .
There is a lot more to being a man husband, father , grandfather , brother , uncle than just being able to piss standing up and getting it in the toilet .
Perhaps with your strength you could cope with a man that has emotional breakdowns .
Sadly not all women are as strong as you and they need the support from a man with emotional detachment .
I personally would be mortified If I was told by any girl that it's ok to cry . It would be more embarrassing than having the Mrs open a door for me except when I was carrying something to big and heavy for her to help of course
i think men are forgetting how to be men. I also think women are forgetting how to be women . I think this race for feminism and equal rights has done nothing to help either gender and in fact has made a generation of men and women that are unhappy and both sexes are very mistrusting of the other . This has been passed to our children |

Where on earth does it say crying equals emotional breakdown? I wouldn't be able to cope with someone who had emotional breakdowns all the time. I wouldn't want to. But displaying a bit of emotion at an appropriate time, like when they feel they need to? That's healthy.
Anyway, I prefer a relationship of equals where we both support each other as and when we need it. He tears up at things on the tv, I cry when I'm frustrated or angry, I go silent when I'm upset. Neither of us are better or worse than the other, weaker or stronger. Just different.
What's damaging is when men feel they HAVE to suppress any signs of emotion for fear of being perceived as weak. |

You seem to think women are weak and need protecting by a big strong man |

And you may be surprised what a woman can do and has done for you. It's not a one way street. Any woman who does need emotionally carrying by a man all the time is a pretty piss poor excuse for an adult. But so is a man who thinks that all his role is. |

I love a man who cries. It shows a depth of feeling and character, and that he hasn't repressed all emotion in order to appear 'manly'.
I love sexually submissive men, too.
It takes a stronger man to show a woman how deeply he feels things, and to be willing to hand over control to a woman, sexually. |

Men are not forgetting how to be men. They're rejecting and moving away from the social conditioning to be something society expects them to be. Why should someone be strong, silent, stoical, responsible and emotionless, just because he's bigger and has a penis?
Why should a woman be expected to be soft, weak, deferential and submissive, just because she has a uterus?
The sexes and their supposed roles are blurring. It's not about feminism or mistrust, but evolution and progression towards equality between genders, if such a thing can ever really exist.
I find your _iew worrying. |

There seems to be a bit of confusion between 'male' and 'machismo'... i have regularly observed a definite link between portraying a macho image and a fragile ego.
It is when you tie your own self worth into how you perceive others should see you that problems occur and pidgeon holing yourself into your version of a society 'norm'.
Try having the confidence to just be comfortable with yourself and your emotions.. |

Apparently because I can keep calm and deal with problems without crying I have issues .
I would rather have issues than have to rely on someone to sort my shit out
Theirs nothing wrong with it if that's just what you do naturally. However if you feel that's the way it should be because your man that's wrong. Also expecting other men to handle it and not cry cause they are men is wrong.
My hubs never cries that's just him but I know if things really got to him he would if that's what he needed.
Xx
Not all men have it in them to handle everything life throws at them . Just like not all men are fit or have blonde Hair
And like you say , things are bad when hubby cries
yoyr hubby is there to let you and the kids know to not worry it will be fine
If he starts crying as well you know your in trouble hence why men don't cry "
I'm not sure that a relationship based on one person holding it together is going to work out well for either party in the long run. A good relationship should be about mutual support and reliance both from and for each other.
I think I agree with some of what you say but I definitely don't like the way you saying it. Sounds a bit chauvinist to me. |

My dad cried once in the 19 years I had the privilege of knowing him, that's when his dad died.
I seem to go for the strong silent type who doesn't share their emotions - Will will never tell me how he feels, he relies on me 'knowing'!
Sometimes it's hard, after all if I have to ask then the answer is not freely given
As for crying - I can't get him to use words half the time - I've got no hope!

I've grown up alongside criticism, for people who show emotion - so I usually don't.
After 9 years of caring for a wife with dementia, holding it together and putting on a fake happy face for her, she died and my world fell apart - so did I.
Allowing the floodgates to open, wasnt a good idea tho... six months down the road, I'm fed up with tears being triggered by the stupidest little things - and not being able to regain control of those emotions. My best option is to try and keep them private.
Given a choice, I'd be a normal, dry-faced bloke. However, life sometimes sends us armour-piercing shit which will inevitably crack our defences. |
